3.0 cam on the left and 3.2 cam on the right. Intake side.

I was under the impression that the timing marks should line up. But you can see that the camshaft and sprocket timing marks don't line up at all. The timing mark on the camshaft isn't even close on where it is supposed to be.

Here is the other intake side. It isn't as bad but still off.

There must be something that I'm missing. The ford manual also shows that the timing marks are in the incorrect spot.

Or do the marks on the camshaft themselves mean nothing? Only the bolt and the dot on the camshaft sprocket matter?

That mark may be drilled out for balance. The Ford tool used to chack the cam timing goes by the flat sections near the bolt holes on the sprocket ******. Eyeball the lobes, if they look to be in the same spot, it's most likely correct.

I became confused because all the 3.0 cams and the ford manual had that hole lined up. Thanks for the help.

The dimple by the tooth/cog is the timing mark & the chain is marked aswell by a light colored links. To me they seem to be lined up with the gear fasteners.

That hole in the end of the cam is more than likely a locating pin used to make sure the blank stays in one orientation during the grinding process. The bolts that hold the sprocket onto the cam will be in alignment with the mating surface of the valve cover on the head when the two cams are timed correctly. Once the intake cam is timed to the exhaust cam and the chain installed, then you time the two banks to the crank sprocket with the belt.

Yep.

Thanks for the help. I realized my mistake after my first post.
