Odd SHO problem. Cam maybe?

This is gonna be copy pasted from the Email my father sent me. '99 SHO about 170.*** miles. Cams not welded.

"Tappin little but more compression or exhaust leakage bad but doesn't run loud like exhaust idle runs a little fast slows down and then fast again but is not missing just really loud near cylinder one"

"It sounds like major compression leak or exhaust at cylinder 1 area am working on it right now"

my question is.... What are some of the problems / symptoms when the cams break in the V8 SHO's?

please help asap

tell him not to start the car until the cams are welded. weld the cams.

Weld the cams for peace of mind. But this noise you describe could be a plug that has worked loose and is about ready to blow out. I just had to repair a blown out plug on my daughters car. That plug had been there for 50K since I last serviced. But there were three good threads left, so if I would have been driving the car I likely would have heard the noise from the loose plug and been able to tighten it before it blew out. But with a teenager the stereo is too loud for that to happen.
