Odd problem with shifter

I just had an error code cleared at autozone and after i started my engine i could not click the button in to shift to drive, it just wouldent move. That had never happened before. I fixed the problem by turning off the car and moving the key to halfway with no electronics on or anything. I shifted to Neutral and then started engine. I could then move into Drive. Anyone have any ideas on this one. i was gonna pull power from the battery to reset my computer, but i wanted to ask here first.

classic symptom of bad brake light switch. check to see if you have brake lights at all. easy fix

There is a brake pedal interlock switch that will release the shifter. Either the switch is bad or the mechanism in the shifter may be bad. It is not the actual BOO switch that activates the interlock.
