I'm having clutch problems. After driving for 30 minutes or so and then shutting the car off, letting it sit for a few minutes and restarting, it's almost impossible to get it into gear. It shifts fine before you shut it off and if you let it cool down all the way. This has happened 2 days in a row now. It's an OEM Valio clutch with 12k miles on it. Anyone ever have trouble like this?

It's is a very odd problem. I was thing PP fingers the first time it happened because that exactly what it feels like. If weird thing is that you can drive it all day long and the clutch engages at mid pedal and it will shift just fine but let it sit for a few minutes after it's warmed up and you can forget about getting it in gear.

Change the transmission fluid.

Change the fluid. Use something recommended on this board.

If it is black, refill and flush with regular ATF. Refill again with something synthetic. If it still does not shift you have a clutch problem, but I'd try the fluid change first.

Install a drain plug in the bottom of the trans case, as recommended.

It sounds just like my issues just prior to needing to replace. MY PP had 2 or 3 broken fingers by the time I needed the clutch done. Could be both needing new tranny juice or clutch adjustment meaning the clutch is not disengaging enough to free the tranny for gear selection.

The fluid is full and clean. It has around 6k on the current fill of synthetic Mobil 1. Is what makes it so strange is that it only happens after it get hot and it sits for a few minutes.

Mine did exactly that on the original clutch after I changed the crank sensor. (165k miles, summer 2003.)

It would shift a few shifts fine then get harder and harder to shift. Shut it off, wait a few minutes, and it would shift ok.

When I pulled it apart the fingers weren't broken but were VERY worn, one of the inside springs on the disc was just rattling around in the bell housing. ANd the TOB was SHOT...

Good luck.

It's not quiet like that; it shifts fine hot or cold until you shut it off for a few minuits after it gets hot, then it won't go into gear.

Let me ask you this. If you try to engage it with the car off does it go in better? Example: duplicate all of the conditions that make the car act up, and then instead of starting it, just try to engage.

Also, how many times has your flywheel been machined?
