I am trying to find the thread on this to no avail. There was discussion about a company having a new octane booster that also was beneficial to the longevity of the engine. I've heard of Torco but I dont think that was it. A few of you were interested in this product. any ideas? Im lost. Lol

Are you thinking of ACES IV? It's not "new", but is relatively new 2 me.

Torco is by far the best "additive" for octane. However cleaning things I'm not sure.

You have to be VERY careful with any additives in your EcoBoost. They are extremely sensitive to additives. We have had several clients foul plugs and gum up injectors by adding cleaners and boosters into their EcoBoosts. We recommend that if you are trying to clean things out run a higher grade of fuel to your tank. That higher octane burns cleaner and slower VS your lower octane.

I already run 93. This was a product that had extensive research done on it. Very lengthy thread with lengthy comments. I just cant find it anywhere. I understand your apprehension. Im just trying to find this and research it more. No luck yet

Are you thinking of the BG induction cleaning?

Ive been wondering if i need to clean the valves on my SHO. Mine always idles a tad rough for about 20 seconds when the motor is cold but i feel thats about normal for a performance motor. theres so many high mileage 3.5 ecoboost out there at this point that i feel its not necessary to do any induction cleaning, to afraid it would do more harm than good.

I always put 93 shell vpower in the SHO i think thats all it really needs in this aspect.

Yeah, if you are starting with a higher-mileaged motor, it is a bit of a risk with induction cleaning, and you'd be better off looking into walnut shell media blasting to get that shine back. If you do that, or start the program early on in the life of the vehicle, induction cleaning OR meth injection would work great.

Think about a catch can install especially if you see oil pooling in the intake or intercooler. At least empty out the intercooler periodically.

Ive got 55k miles on mine would that be considered past the point to look into induction cleaning?

I havent seen any oil in the intake and my oil levels stay exactly the same between changes. Need to check the intercooler tho.

Probably be ok if intercooler is ok. Best way to know is to scope the valves with a boroscope, usb-based or professional.

Running a splash of a higher octane fuel will aid in cleaning out the system. For example E85 or MS109 optimally.

@joe raptor EcoBoosts are not made for any additives to be introduced into their systems. We have had many people call us asking us to rebuild their engines because their car keeps on killing injectors, plugs and fuel pumps. After a simple 5 minute conversation we figure out that they have been using fuel booster and/or fuel system cleaner. Your best bet like I said earlier is running a couple gallons of a higher octane than your normal fill up. The slower and cleaner burning fuel will breakdown most of your normal build-up cleaning out your system.

Is there anyway to know if it's the booster and not the cleaner?

I could see the booster being an issue, but the cleaner puzzles me as to why it would hurt so much.

As I've used a cleaner quite a few times over the last year with somewhat good results I'd say.

Thx for any extra info

There is little reason to use cleaner if you are using higher octane fuels from time to time like you do Rich. Your occasional 2-3 gallons of E85 actually does wonders for cleaning out your system!

The "brand name" fuel companies, e.g. Shell, have figured out that they need to put really good injector cleaner in their top octane fuels to entice more people to buy the top premium grade - e.g. "my car runs so much better with the 93 octane gas..." - so they do. That is the reason that putting some of the highest octane from a brand name company will be the best you can do. Ethanol is also a pretty strong solvent, so that is why a little extra of that helps clean things up. The direct injection engines run a lot higher fuel pressure, so they are more sensitive to the viscosity and lubricity of the "gas" that they are injecting, so some of the fuel system cleaners that work well on older intake-injection engines cause problems with the direct-injection engines. The boys at Livernois do this for a living - it would be good to heed their advice.

All the more reason to stick with Top Tier gasoline. The list online changes once in a while so it's best to check it occasionally.

I've been on a 15-17% mix of corn for almost a year now (11 months). Car seems to like it.
