i got to windsor and lost 3rd gear.....soo i drove the 2 min home in 2nd gear .....

newayz i took it the next day and on the way to the shop..it shifted awesome...still didnt have overdrive my it shifted firm and i had 3rd gear...

the shop hooked it up to the scanner and said it showed my Overdrive sensor was bad......

what is the overdrive sensor ? and are they expensive or hard to install ??
it goes in tuesday afternoon to get the sensor chaged and see if that changes anything......

also the shop said i lost 3rd cause the car went into "limp mode" and only let it go into 2nd....anyone ever herd of limp mode ?? what the **** is it ??

there is a TSS sensor and a VSS sensor for the tranny. there is an overdrive switch on your shifter. you can pull your own codes with the help of http://www.shophoenixproject.com/eec/eec.htm , and then see if a code registers as a tranny sensor problem.

i have a 452 code, that points out the VSS problem with my car. it shifts hard, late and downshifts when not requested...and now stalls and sometimes wont start (not sure if its due to, but i am blaming it right now)

Are you sure they aren't talking about a shift solenoid? If so that would be somewhat costly because they are located on the valve body/Main control assy and the side pan would need to be removed to replace any of the solenoids, and if they are replacing the main control assy as a unit you better grab some vasiline cause someone is gonna feel like they just got #$!$*&# :oogle: and they arent cheap, somewhere around $800 from the dealer the last time i checked. As for the fliud leaking .........thats one to worry about too, if you run it low on fliud constently it will start to burn up the clutch's inside due to the heat from it slipping. I've seen alot of them leaking from the torque converter seal and that usually needs a new stator, converter, and seal to repair the leak properly. The trans would need to be removed and disassembled to change the stator(it wears out from the bushing in converter)so it basically should be overhauled completely while that far into it.
So i hope it doesn't go that far far you but you wanted to know what you could be looking at.
Oh and another way you might want to go is a Remanufactured Unit, the FQR unit from any Ford dealer has a 3yr 36,000 warenty parts and labor on it and that assy cost's around $2,000.
Good luck next week :thumb:
Limp home mode is a stratagy the car's PCM has when it see's something electronicaly goes wrong it keeps the trans in 2nd so it doesnt try and do anymore damage to the trans and so you can try to get it to a shop or home.
