My brakes failed on me.

Reason: God knows why, but the bloody caliper popped RIGHT off the rotor. Hanging by the brake line, if you will. Somehow the caliper pins sheared, or just worked themselves loose.

Thank God I had just exited the freeway. That was a near one.

This was the daily driver, not the Hulk. This ****** is SO SOLD.

Any ideas why the pins would shear/work themselves loose? Has this ever happened to anyone? And I havent looked at it yet, but is there more, catastrophic damage underneath?

This is the stock rear rotor and caliper, replaced 6 months ago. New pads, calipers and rotor.

Yes sir... if not torqued properly these bolts will work themselves loose. 2 days after I did my 96 Brake upgrade I popped the right wheel off only to discover a slider pin came out and both of the rotor to hub bolts ewhere halfway out. Upon inspection of the other side I discovered the same.

That's a **** of a way to get a heads up on that. Glad nothing really bad happened. I'll file that under things to keep my eye on.

Oz,

Does Taurus know about the problems you've had with that car?

Rick
he dont know about this little episode, but yes, full disclosure has been made as to its condition.

its one **** of a nice sho. looks good, runs well, excellent interior condition. and its got the really expensive mods on it. completely redone suspension, baer brakes, 17 inch wheels, and all maintenance has been done. only thing wrong right now is an exhaust leak and the heater core.

so, yes, he does have the skinny on the facts.
