I have questions that I need answered in order to pursue my boosted goal. I have a 91mtx that is in good condition except for the blown tranny. My plans are as follows.

1)pull engine & tranny
2)perform full 60k service (everything replaced)rod bearings are done
3)clean and replace entire engine bay.
4)Replace all suspension parts with new or like new parts
5)Put a LSD in the new tranny and service everything nec.
6)Rod shifter

Now my question is this. I plan to begin collecting parts for a future turbo system. Which parts that I will be replacing can I upgrade ahead of time in order to accomodate the turbo system I will eventually add. I plan on running around 10-15lbs of boost through an intercooled set up.

So what should I take care of when I do the overhaul that I wont have to go back and replace down the line. Since everything is going to be apart and out of the engine bay I figured now would be the best time. Ex. clutch, maf, intake man. etc. So anything that you think would be worth my money to spend now please give me the part and why I should replace it now. Thanks for your help hope to start this ASAP.

The things you mentioned, like the 60k and rod bearings, plus I would do clutch, rear main, tap my oil lines (just cap them off), protect all vital components with heat shield, battery to trunk, and make the neccessary modifications to the sheet metal to accomadate the turbo piping.

BUT, it makes the most sense to just do this WHEN you upgrade with the turbo system.

exactly what i was thinking.... allthough, like you said, a couple things could be easier by doing it now... but its still not that hard to do it then....

Why doesn't someone make a list of the bare minimum turbo system, then a list of a turbo system with all of the proper upgrades and make it sticky?

Because it's not like someone is going to turbo their SHO. If someone is going to do it theirself, then they would most likely already know what's required and go about it.

Most likely, but I think it would mainly cut down on the "what do i need to turbo my car" threads.

Well its not that I dont know what im doing, but that im not sure on everything that needs to be covered to attempt it. I have never done it befor and by no means am I just posting to post. The question I ask is for those who have either worked on building or have actually built a turbo SHO. I will also go further on to ask where did most people tap for oil lines, has anyone used a down stream set up for the turbo, and whats the highest boost usually capable with the stock fuel system/ignition system, I already have a walbro255 from my last car?/? And I have searched but many of the threads are too broad. Im looking for actuall things I need to do to prep the car in order to actually boost the car. I cant know everything if I've never done it befor. People need to learn from somone. If anyone has anything that is helpful I would appreciate it.

Maybe we could get some guys from North Carolina that like to make turbo SHOs out of spare radiator parts and diesel turbos? Are those guys even still on the board with their "amazing" turbo SHOs?:laugh_ti:

Yea were still driving around in our turbo shos over here in NC. By the way there were no spare raditor parts used in either build up of these cars. Everything came off of turbo engines, and no one said are cars are amazing like your sweet batmobile were just having fun !!

do you guys get a lot of snow in NC? i will be making a trip to SC to visit some family sometime over the winter i would like to stop by with my SHO and make a couploe of friendly pulls ;)

FYI i'm in NY

i made a turbo list just do a search for my name and it should come up and it even includes pricing for new parts. its not a end all be all list but it will get many of the basice down for you. stock fuel system 300 crank HP stock ignition is good for boost if you install copper plugs.

haha... you are a funny guy. lets quote your profile.
"Batmobile
- Blown tranny
- Blown clutch
- Down for the count <------ doesn't drive real well without a tranny or clutch does it.

'87 Turbo Coupe
- 3400 lbs
- 190 hp 240 ft/lbs
- Not fast." <---------------NOT FAST/

for someone who doesn't have any "fast" or "driveable" cars a turbo sho made out of radiator parts and spare diesel parts would be much faster than yours, wouldn't it.

haha

Of course I am certainly no expert on the V-6 motors but isn't 15 lbs. of boost just a bit high for this engine without dropping the compression a little? I know mine didn't like 12 lbs very much. Sounded like marbles in a coffee can on hot days even with the intercooler.

I would think that detonation could be easily controlled with an SCT tune or a Tweecer tune. Using an intercooler doesn't automatically give you enough leeway to up the boost. The same rules of physics still apply. Hot intake air temps, back out timing.
