I purchased my 92 sho about two months ago now. Since I have owned it the brake light in the spoiler has never worked. Today I finally tore it off to find out what's going on. The problem must be within the light itself. I checked the current from the battery to the connector and had my 12 volts. The wires going into the light housing appeared to be good, and after testing them I found out that they are indeed fine. The housing for the lights is sealed with a very hard glue. I could probably cut it away slowly or heat the glue with a heat gun, but I'm assuming that the lights are led's anyway(?!) so it wouldn't be very easy to replace anyway - assuming it were the lights.

Has anyone had any familiar problems? Ford said they'd order and sell me a new set of lights for $144. I passed.

I don't want to tear into the light housing if I would end up breaking it - I'd rather have a perfect looking spoiler/brake light that doesn't work than a broken spoiler/light that has a questionable outcome.

Oops, my car is a 93...even though they're both gen 2 body styles. (the 2 is next to the 3 on my keyboard - just like yours should be!)

I was also just talking to a friend today about how many miles I've put on the car since I bought it. It's incredible how much more I drive now that I have a car I enjoy driving!! (I've put nearly 5,000 on my car since the end of July.)

If you have power to the LED array, then it's probably defective.

Your only real choice is to replace it, either with a new unit ($$$$) or perhaps with a used one (www.alfitz.com).

If you have the Ford part #, you can probably find it for around $100-$110 from one of the online discount Ford parts vendors.

Otherwise, it sounds like you get to be the experimenter with the Dremel tool who will take it apart and see if it can be fixed.

Good luck.

Guys,
You CAN fix the LED array, but it isn't easy, to say the least. I know, I've done it. I had 2 LED bulbs that wouldn't work, so I did the same thing you guys did, check around. After finding that FoMoCo wanted more than $140 for a new one, which, in all honestly, is enough to **** off the Pope, I went to trying to find an alternative. You can get the replacement LED bulbs at Radio Shack, and they work great. The main trick to doing this fix, is that it is a ****** to get that red lens assembly off so you can have access to the PCB. Once you do have it off, you simply solder out the defective one, and solder in the new one. Voila! Good as new. Hope this helps, and if anyone really needs the part numbers from Radio Shack, I'll have to look it up again, cuz it's escaping me right now.

Later!
