When my car left me 2 weeks ago it did NOT make this noise in the timing cover area. The car went to the body shop first to have some rust bubbles fixed, then went to the mechanic for new power steering lines. I get the car in my hands tonight and it is doing this. I have a suspicion that somebody along the way was kicking the shit out of the car, the clutch felt wayyyy lighter than normal...

As you hear in the video the noise moves with the RPM. It's either coming from the timing cover, or lower. Defenitely the far left side of the motor. I can't really pin point it high or low.

Does it sound like anything anybody has heard before?

Thanks...

SHO new noise

almost sounds like the timing belt rubbing against the plastic cover somewhere. have you tried moving or shimming the cover w/ the engine running?

might be cams/crank but noise sounds like rubbing against plastic.

I concur fine gentleman...moreso sounds like the cam gear making contact with the timing cover. I say that because it's not a constant sound, it kinds pulses. Take off the timing cover and you'll see if and where the contact is being made. GL with finding the problem.

How do your belts look? Are they frayed at all? It also sounds like it could be a pulley bearing...? If you take your belts off, since that had to have been done when they did your power steering pump, spin the pullies and see if one sounds like it's grinding. Did they fill up your power steering resivior? Just ideas...
