I did a search on this and wasn't 100% convinced it could be one certain thing so I'll my question anyway... I get one of my other SHO's on the road and it seems to drive beautifully. The one thing I did notice was when I went to start it one time, the tach did not move at all while it was running. I shut it off and it started right back up, but the tach still was not registering. I pulled out and probably have the car up to around 3 grand and it came alive. Does this sound like a cam sensor, cps, or DIS ground or something? Supposedly when I bought the car, the owner replaced the cps, cam sensor, and DIS, as I have all three spares in the trunk. Any clues?

i replaced my cps, and my tach still didnt work, and when it did, it didnt read correctly, i "borrowed" a dis modual off of a totalled sho at my work and it started to read correctly, then, my freind gave me his summit tach, i installed it and it works perfect, hasnt stopped in a month...so dont always think its your cps, but dont rule it out thumbs_u

Sounds like the cam sensor, mine did the same thing replaced it and fixed. (need the 5.5 mm socket and small hands to change!) I beleive that the DIS also drives the tach so either two. Check for codes first. Good luck

If the CPS is not creating a signal, the engine won't run. If the CID sensor is not creating a signal, the engine will start very ugly. If you are losing the tach and the engine is otherwise running fine, you probably have a poor connection to the DIS module on the engine or to the tach at the dash end of the wires.
