What do you mean it won't "catch".. do you mean it cranks and cranks but won't actually start or do you mean the starter isn't cranking the engine right? If it's the latter you might need a new flywheel or have it resurfaced

If by "no catch" you mean the car isn't turning over, but the starter sounds like it is engaged, then I would look at the starer first, then the flywheel. If the starter sounds (whining) like it's working but not "catching" the flywheel then you've got a bad starter. (I've replaced 3 in 8 years and that's exactly how it begins)

If by "no catch" you mean the car is turning over but not starting then you could have several issues and more info would be needed to assist.

I have something of the same problem with mine......I was told by someone who happens to know their shit that the problem's in my fuel pickup. something about the return valve on the pickup unit.

The car turns over normally but does not start
I then turn it over again and it will start... I also have been noticing alittle hesitation at steady speeds ..

Umm...what he's describing isn't the "cid".....what you're describing is the CKP...crankshaft position sensor....and his symptoms aren't suggesting anything related to that.

For some reason, I'd theorize that your not holding fuel pressure after turning off the vehicle. As stated before, mine does the same damn thing. I've replaced everything fuel related under the hood except for the injectors, and nothing's worked thus far. After talking to Doug Lewis at Ford Performance Specialists, I've found that my pick-up is to blame. The return line has a lil valve in it, and when pressure's not on it, the valve stays closed to keep pressure in the system for re-starts. That valve goes bad, and pressure drops in the fuel rail, thus having to try multiple times to start it. There's 2 fixes.

1: Buy a new pickup and replace it.
2: don't be so impatient and let the fuel pump prime for a second or two before attempting to start the car.

If you CID goes bad the engine does not know which bank of plugs to fire when you try to start it. You will have a 1 in 3 chance of it starting. If it is bad your tach will not work either. I know this from personal experience.

Do you have fuel pressure and spark? What about codes from the computer? You need to run those and let us know what they are. Many times your computer will tell you everything that's wrong and is the first place to start along with verifying fuel pressure and spark. Without that basic information the only thing we can offer is guesses and guesses can sometimes cost tons of money.
