I posted in the emergency section but not many responses....

I currently have had problems with my heater core, so i did the heater core bypass yesterday till i can come up with the cash to fix it permantly. and i got back in my car after i had it all done and now the speedo doesnt work. what might of caused this? I was working back by the firewall where the heater lines go in and out and thats the only place i was was working in. Any ideas??

Dude, this happened to me too. I was also working back by the firewall removing and replacing my valve cover. I put the car back together and went out for a ride and everything worked great except now I have no speedometer.

Since this happened to the both of us who were working by those hoses near the firewall I'm sure it's something simple. I'm going out to look at my car now to find out what the problem is.

Fixed it. I bumped the speedo cable by the heater hoses which caused the bottom part to pull out of the transmission. I just shoved it back in and it worked.

The clip that holds it on got mangled when I pulled it out so I couldn't re-use it. I just left it without one. I don't think it's gonna come out unless it's pulled out.

Yeah, if you get a flashlight and follow the cable down you'll see where it goes into the trans. It's the cable just to the right of the heater hose coming out of the firewall. There's a joint about half way to the trans where it could come apart as well.

The cable has a slender metal shaft that sticks out past the end of the cable about 1/2". This needs to go down into the trans so it might look connected but may actually be pulled out. Just shove it back in nice and tight.

There is also one of these shafts at the joint half way to the trans. So make sure that one is tight as well.

This happened to me too, except the cable pulled out the back of the spedo on the gauge pod.
