ok, i finally got my new harmonic balancer bolt, put everything back togethor, and no spark. I replaced teh CPS, and im pretty sure its gapped right (i think it was 30 thousandths? its been like 2 weeks) I used a spark tester on the wire, and then again to check and see if it was getting to the coil. none. could I have a bad CPS? Should i pull it back apart, and check the gap again? Im 95 percent sure its gapped right.

Make sure all the connections are good to the cps and the DIS module. Make sure the crossover tube is bolted down correctly. The gap should be .030 .

ecsue my ignorance. I hear about the crossover tube being talked about with swapping MAFs, but dont know exactly what it is.

The "crossover tube" is that part of the intake manifold that the DIS module mounts to.

If it is not securely grounded via the two bolts that secure it to the heads, very strange things can happen. Anyihing from a no spark to an intermittent or poorly running engine have been reported.

The .030 gap is not overly critical. What is critical is that none of the vanes of the timing gear make contact with the sensor. If they do, they will destroy the sensor and probably themselves.

I posted awhile back on how to test the CPS with a meter. A SEARCH should bring it up.

I have the same problem with my Sho
I have new plugs, wires, ignition coil pack, cps and I still get that problem.
I have a mechanic look at it and the only thing he could tell me after replacing the coil pack was replace the DIS module. Mine willl start now after the coil pack but its running rough with low rpms and after driving for a while it will not start for about 20-30 mins thne it starts..

Please guys any help would be greatly appreciated

the only codes I get is for the act sensor

thanks

ajhenry,

Ignore the ACT code.

Have the mechanic perform a fuel system pressure test to see if you have adequate pressure and volume.

93Emerald

The brackets thet secure the intake to the head on the four outboard corners are not that important in and of themselves. However, the bolt to which the bracket directly adjacent to the PS pump is the bolt/stud that supplies the engine's electrical ground to the rest of the car's chassis. This bolt must be tight into the head and all the ground wires on the bolt must be secure with clean connections.

Ill check that i guess. I put the other bracket back on, with all screws, still no spark.

i found in a different thread, that the thread you are talking about is called "square wave", but it didnt turn up in a search

for a no spark issue i have to ask if you have had the ignition module tested??? any autozone should be able to test it for free!!! if thats not your problem you can test the CPS with a nine volt battery and a multimeter. I don't have the test procedure here with me its at the shop but if you need me to get it email me and the next timei'm at the shop i'll write it down for you it's simple it works on all hall effect sensors

also i forgot to add. if the CPS went bad you might want to replace the cam sensor(cid) they usually go bad together. its only about $30 so its pretty cheap. but have the dis module checked first>

I just had the DIS tested by a mechanic, its bad.
I called ford they want $315 for it and autozone wants $100 but they don't have a picture of it because it has to be ordered, does anybody know of any place that has them in stock

FPN and SHO Nut both sell them new (the real Ford one) for around $150, IIRC. They're also on eBay all the time for short $$$.

The aftermarket units (borg warner?) should be fine. Make sure that's the problem before you invest the money.
