After fixing another lingering issue (radiator) I was driving The CE light came on my car and it started bucking and shaking bad. I was able to milk it to the nearest gas station ~1/4 mile away. I shut it down popped the hood looking for loose connections. Everything looked good restarted it. The car fired right up and ran fine for ~ 20 miles.

The next day I tried to start it and it started really rough and stalled. I restarted it and I lost tach signal but it still ran. I then got the tach signal back and it stalled and would not restart. And hasn't since.

I ran a self test right away after it stalled and got a 211 (or was it 214, can;t remember) and 542. Pulled a plug and no spark.

I since swapped: DIS, coil pack, Cam sensor, and Crank sensor. Still won't start. Still no spark I am assuming cause I can smell gas, you can hear the fuel pump prime as well.

I ran the codes again, now I get a 111 and a 542.

I am guessing it has to be the IRCM or the ECU, everything else has been replaced and I am out of Ideas. Is there any way I can Check the ECU and/or IRCM? Or do i just need to swap them out. I really don't feel like nor can afford to dump $800+ for a new ECU and/or IRCM.

Thanx in advance

There's a couple of us with very similar issues like this. I had similar symptoms and a no spark condition.
At this point I am thinking the CPS is to blame (it is 1K old). I know what the source voltages should be, but don't know now to check them. I am in the process of pulling everything back off to check the gap and condition of CPS and pulse wheel.

Good luck. Please keep me updated. I just put my new CPS in and gapped it with the proper feeler gauge, .3mm (.08") so I duno. I am kinda discouraged at this point. If I had $$ I'd just drop it off somewhere and say, "fix it" but unfortunately that's not an option right now. :(

I will let you know. I have to wait until friday (payday) so i can buy a breaker bar. Me and my 4" ratchet wasn't going to get that crank bolt out... but we tried like ****.

I thought the gap was .03 not .08.
Make sure the trigger wheel doesn't have a bunch of crud on the back of it.

You are correct, sir... .03, not .3
Do you by chance know how to check the output of the CPS? Which of the 5 wires does what?

Well, perhaps it was the CPS after all. I got into the car today to move it and figured ahh what the heck I'll try to start it, and whata ya know, it fired right up. Maybe it just had to get used to the new sensor? :gotme: I changed nothing since yesturday when it wouldn't start and now it does. Maybe it was too flooded to start yesturday, from all the cranking.

well... where did you get your sensor?? I know that when I went and replaced my TPS from advance autoparts, it worked for a day or too and started doing a bucking thing, and didn't respond well, so I returned it and got another crappy one. Well i forked over the extra money went to ford and bought one of theirs, and worked untill the car died...

Could be as dumb as the sensor itself, but seeing as others have the same prob, I don't know, and if the CPS or KPS (??) or isn't a ford part, try it... if it's not too much.

I am afraid to ask this... but, how much was the CPS from Ford?

The answer- $$139.00

I spent some time on the SHO today and found my problem. As it turns out, my problem is deffinately the CPS. It failed because the pulse wheel (behind the lower cam sprocket) was not true and broke the CPS. My CPS had some wear marks showing me exactly what had happened. This circumstance is unique to my situation because I had not gapped the first CPS and it wrecked the pulse wheel and the CPS. I tried to apply a little surgury to fix it, then put on a new CPS (the one that is now broke). I figured close is close enough. It turns out that close is not close enough.
I went to a ford dealer and had to order a new sprocket which has the pulse wheel attached, 89 bucks. It sucks that I can't just order a new pulse wheel, but such as life, i guess.
The new part will be here tuesday, I already bought a new CPS from Napa today. So, it looks like Wednesday will be spent under the SHO.
