Once I hit 130mph in the 92, it was like I hit a brick wall. Immediately, I put the transmission in nuetral.

Any suggestions as to what the cause is? The car has aftermarket guages, but I don't think that can cause a 10+mph difference, if I actually hit the rev limiter. I didn't have time to check the rpms, but I didn't want to keep flooring it either! And on my way back to the house, it was acting different. When I'd take off from a dead stop, power would kick in real hard around 2500rpms.

Tomorrow, if I have time, I will check the fuel pressure and replace the fuel filter if need be.

Plus, I've always thought that it just doesn't pull enough, in any gear, after 6k rpms. :frown:

Edit: Just remembered, the SHO has more rasp from the exhaust now.

I don't think it'd be the ******, the mufflers are making more rasp. Oh well, it went away this morning. I'm just wondering about the 130 thing.

This morning, I was running low on fuel so I pumped some more it. Now, the regular driving crap went away after putting in some new juice. I guess the previous fuel was bad. I don't know why, I never put the cheap stuff in. I guess everybody is putting in 87 and the 93 tank is just sitting there with the gas absorbing moisture.

Perhaps you've blown a cat and have restricted exhaust, The aftermarket high flow cats are prone to this. If you drove 130mph with this condition it may already be too late.

When you get out to the red line (RPM) the computer starts shutting down the injectors to prevent over-revving the engine. The top end speed is also limited and the computer does the same thing. I'm not sure what speed is built into the SHO, but 130 is a common speed "limit" in U.S. "performance" cars. Many of the "lesser" cars, such as the Focus, are limited to between 110 and 120 MPH.

Unless ALL systems, such as the body integrity, suspension, brakes, tires, drivetrain, etc, are in 100% top condition(PERFECT), exceeding 70 MPH is foolish and hazardous. Keep in mind that most of the Gen I and Gen II SHOs are 10 to 16 years old with high milage. Many of them have rusted bodies, poor suspensions, inadequate brakes, tires that are not speed rated for high speeds, loose steering, deteriorated suspension bushings, and other problems that could lead to a disaster at high speeds.

The aforementioned, combined with a lack of experience and proper training, are all to often a deadly combination. It is a common misconception that a drivers license means that the person it is issued to knows how to DRIVE.

Food for thought!

This speed sensing limiter is not programed in to 89' year models, they are limited only by rpm. I am not privy to any other year models whether atx or mtx. It seems to me that all the mtx cars will pin the speedo if in good running order. There is wisdom in your statment of caution to the ignorant. I exercised great strength in fighting the urge to insult the hard bellied geniuses who if they had a clue how deep in danger they have put themselves and more importantly the public-they may get religion or a wheelchair if there lucky. If the snot nosed geniuses took a high perf driving course it would change the way they drive on the hiway/freeway forever. Only if they are smart enough to realize how little they know about car control. At 140 in a SHO driver options are very limited in the event of a suprise. On any of the premire American road courses you would never reach 140mph on there longest straightaways in a moderatly modified SHO.

There is no speed limiter on an SHO...wth are you guys smoking?

And going above 70? WTH? Most people cruise at 75-80 around here...in any kind of car...

That 92 hit the rev limiter @ 6800rpm in 3rd the other day, so I bet it hit it early in 4th too @ 130...somethin's mesed up in there.

My gosh, it was a race, lol.

We all take a risk from dying everyday, it's just when it's your time.

The 92, I would say, is up to par to drive at those speeds.

BTW, the 92 hit the rev limiter in 3rd gear at 6800rpms!
