Ok I sold my tranny from my old car that spun a rod bearing. I worked fine while in my car. Now he says he installed it with a new clutch and it will not go in first all other gears he said are fine. Just wandering what could be the problem? I kind of feel bad It should have been fine..

thanks

Does it shift into all gears with the engine off?

If the clutch is not adjusted properly... lift up on the clutch pedal with your foot. Should set the right amount of tension on it...

i'm the one who purchased the trans.its full of fluid,i pulled up on the peddle and when the car is off it goes into every gear fine but first is locked out.i drove the car for the first time tonight and still no first, rolling, stopped, nothing and discovered every other gear is kinda sketchy too, sometimes going in and others not.it leads me to believe the clutch isn't engaging/disengaging as it should be but the question is why??? could the cable be that old that its not pulling how it should??

Thats what happens when you give a 5 y.o. a transmission to play with instead of a tonka!;)

Why bother asking a question when you already know it all. I mean, you have worked on a car before and are infallible.

nobody said i was infallible,i clearly wrote that i checked the disc before installing tho and giving a bit of background that this isnt the first time i have ever worked on something.some of you guys seem so quick to bash over here.there has to be something wrong with the trans at this point bc the linkage was taken off and shifted the trans by hand by the actual linkage coming out of the trans and it will not go into first no matter what i do.
