Hi guys...
So I've had my 93 SHO MTX running fine for the past year. Did I full front/top 60k, and no problems.
The other day, the water pump started to make some noise (which I had replaced a year ago) so I purchased a new one and put it in...
Car ran fine for 3 days, now it will not crank. Nothing at all. Turn the key, foot on the clutch, notta.
Battery is fine... all the lights work, fully charged, etc. - Not throwing any codes.
I can hear the clutch interlock clicking in when I push on the clutch, so I assume its not that.
I will say this - the car has been very sluggish to turn over for the past few days. Didn't have this issue until the water pump replacement on Monday, but I really don't think I did anything wrong.
I couldn't find anyone on here with my exact problem after doing a search, but I apologize for the new post if there is one already.
Hopefully somoene can help me out. She's my daily driver.. so I'm shit out of luck without her.
THanks!

Make sure you have good connections at the starter. Especially the small gauge wire.

so i'm looking at the car today, and I tried knocking on the starter... no help. From what I can see, all the wires are firmly attached at the starter.
I am trying to find the starter solenoid... since I'm not getting any click...but where the **** is it on a 93 MTX? There is a big gray wire harness where it appears to be in this picture. The only thing that is similar is the ground. The thing on my car has a bracket mounted to the
fender, and then a shit load of wires leaving both sides of the plugs.

So is it elsewhere that I have to look? THanks!

On a '93, it will be mounted on the starter. Only gen 1's (89-91) have the fender-mounted solenoid.

THanks to both of you!
Ok, so on a starter-mounted solenoid, is there a way to test it (safely), like on the fender-mounted ones?

Can I assume its the solenoid if I'm not getting any click? Or is it possible that it's still the stater?

I know some auto parts stores will bench test them for free, but I'm not exactly sure how to test it while installed on the car.

this is a guess but get a 12 volt tester then ground one end of the tester then put the other end on the thik gauge wire get some one to turn the key if it lights up i would b my guess the the solenoid is good and the starter is jammed or junk. no matter wat your probably going to have to take the starter off anyways so take it off and get it tested or take a set of jumper cables to from batteries to the starter/ blak on the ground red on the red pos and the thin gauge wire

so you have 3 possible issues with the starter:
1. the signal wire to the solenoid is not making connection, which means that the solenoid will not attempt to pull in, so no click and no crank.
2. the solenoid is not pulling in or not making connection even though the signal wire is connected properly, so no click and no crank.
3. the starter motor is open-circuited so it won't spin - usually you will hear the solenoid click in this case.

what I do to test these is:
1. have an assistant turn the key to "start" (this is required to send the 'start' signal to the solenoid via the signal wire.
2. take a approx 1/2" box end wrench and short it between the 2 large terminals on the solenoid. (you must use caution not to let the other end of the wrench touch the subframe or block, or you will just short the battery which can have explosive results)

if the solenoid is bad, this will effectively bypass the solenoid and allow the starter motor to crank. this can allow you to start the car and move it somewhere like your garage to actually change the starter. in this case, you could just change the solenoid, which is available as a replacement part.

if the starter motor is bad, shorting the solenoid will have no effect.

thanks to all of you who gave me advice and shared your knowledge. I appreciate it all. I am going to pull raise the car and check everything on Sunday (can't tomorrow - going to rain here on Long Island).
I'll report back once I (hopefully) figure out the problem.

Hi everyone.
Just wanted to thank everyone again for all your help and advice. I went down to Autobarn (a local parts retailer here in NY) and picked up a starter on Sunday. Only went there because it was in stock - took off the old one, bolted on the new, and she started right up.
Don't know what I would do without everyone's priceless knowledge!
Thanks again!
