I need all the help i can get on this one. ON my way home from chicago tonight i almost rearended a car because i had no brakes. When i push the pedal it goes down to the floor. but as soon as i let off and hit them again the brakes are back?? it did this intermittenly my whole way home. The brake light never came on so i dont know what the heck is going on. im kinda scared to drive because i dont know when its going to happen . there was no pattern to the loss of brake so im confused?? Any tips?

Have you checked anything on the car yet? Brake fluid level? Leaking brake fluid anywhere?

from what i could see no there is nothing leaking. the brake light didn't come on so i didn't look to see if there was fluid in the resivoir. It doesn't make sense because as soon as theres no brakes i can let off and hit them again and they are there like nothing was ever wrong. Im wondering if the booster is leaking

Sounds to me like there's air in your system. Could be your booster as well. Simply start by bleeding your brakes. Then go on from there.

OK well i checked into it more and i have no leaks. I talked with a guy i know at chrysler and he said if theres no leaks and you have no pedal its the master cylinder. Makes sense, I asked about the booster and he said if that was bad then the pedal would be hard as a rock. So now i know!! :)

if you suspect it could be the master cylinder then i'd take it off and inspect it and the booster asap. my master cylinder went bad about a year and a half ago so i replaced it and ended up getting a faulty remanufactured unit that was letting fluid past the piston and into the booster. the fluid level inside the booster then rose to the level of the vac line and it was being sucked into the engine. not good. i had to move it from one driveway to another about 25 or 30 feet away in order to work on it and it left a cloud of white smoke across the road that was too thick to see through... then i had to siphon all that fluid out. bottom line- don't wait until something like that happens to you.

On my ATX, I had the same thing happen and it was the switch/sensor under the master cylinder. Eventually, it got worse and the cruise control went away.

Did replacing the master cylinder sensor fix the cruise? cause my cruise hasn't worked for sometime now and I can't fiqure out what it might be.

Yes, it did. This sensor can go bad and only cause your cruise to go away, or it can cause a lot of problems.
