Next problem....rocker covers

Well the AC, alternator and new engine mount are done. Got the mount at AM and the holes were to far apart so had to mod it. Anyone else run into this. I was not happy especially after the rep treated me like I was stupid. I sure get tired of these young parts guys that know it all.
Anyway next step is rocker covers. I have seen a few sets of gaskets for sale. Any suggestions on where to get them. Some didnt seem to have rings for the plugs? Anyone want to do my rear one? Lol.

I was facing a seller too telling me that the ABS relay wasn't made for the SHO. :S Don't let them discourage you.

I bought the valve cover gasket directly on Ford dealer but I realized too late that we can have them a little bit cheaper on e-bay.

Plug well seals need to be buy apart (most of the time individual or by pack of 2). I bought them on e-bay because my Ford dealer sell them for 20$ each... 8$ is a good price.

If you have part #, it will be easier to find them. (Beware that you can lost your mind searching Ford part #...)

Valve cover gaskets :
F6DZ-6584 (from Ford blue book)

F6DZ-6584-BA (right one)
F6DZ-6584-CA (left one)

Spark plug well seals:
F6DZ-6F048-AA
F6DZ-6701-AB
National 710444 (Edit : this part will not fit on the car.)

Waking up this thread. Are the valve cover gaskets the same or?
Most diagrams I find with both part numbers show the front. Some diagrams the rear is the same number. I right the the rear or front? Sorry. I'm sure this has been covered.

No they have the same base number and are different being noted in the 2 letters at the end. You can determine the engine side by (figuratively) sitting on top of the motor, pulley side is front and orient left and right from there.

It's been a long time since I owned a v8 sho so it's not that fresh. I do remember yanking that rear surge tank to get at stuff repeatedly and going back in for coils. Second time through I just replaced all 4 in the back and saved newer ones for any front failures.

Don't remember exactly but your's was higher mileage than me IIRC. At this point, it can be a good idea to change the camshaft seal too (4$).

To know if it's time to change, watch for oil spreading on head, starter, waterpump pulley but if your cover gaskets are shot, this can be the cause. Better clue at this time is to watch upper intake up to IMRC cable to see if you have an oil trace (like 2 inches behind the TB and upper the valve cover gasket), this will confirm that the seal is shot too.

Edit : I just remembered that I run the car without vanity cover. This let oil to spread all around the pulley and on the upper intake... so if you have yours in place, oil will be on the back of your vanity cover, you will see then an almost straight line on it.

To replace it, it will cost a little bit time. Here is how did it recently.

Thank you for the responses. I'm having a hard time getting interested in this project plus I have many other outdoor projects that need done. I don't know where it's leaking but I do know if I run it hard it burns off the rear manifold. Kinda smells in the car. Also was alot of oil on the alternator. Hopefully I will find the ambition and time soon. Going to be cold soon.

I had a similar problem on my daily driver 94, during hard acceleration I would get an oil smell in the cabin. I could see a small leak from my rear cam seal, crank seal, and valve covers. I'm only 40K since my last front 60K, so I thought I would try some Lucas Engine Oil Stop Leak. I figured, I might as well try it for one oil change to see if it slows down the leak. I'm nearing the end of my second oil change and a second bottle, and it has slowed down the leak enough that I rarely get an oil smell in the car. I guess it is a hit and miss depending on how much the seals are leaking. Anyone else have any experience with this product?

Seal swellers. Once in use you have to keep using. The seal will continue to wear out as it is forcibly shut closed and wears down over time.

Number 3 is missing so its coming apart anyway. Otherwise I would keep living with it.

Bought all new coil packs awhile ago. Ordered the seals a few days ago guess. Guess I should do cams too. Any body want a job or buy a black sho?

Don't give up, you have some seals to change and maybe the 4 rear coils. But once it's done, if your cams are welded, you will have a reliable and strong engine even if it has more than 20 years.

Retreiving the surge tank is complicated mostly the first time. If you need help, I can send you a Word file with many photos of the engine to help you see what is to unbolt.

According to what you said, it seems to be mostly the valve covers and maybe the crankshaft seal that are to done. Camshaft seal can done in a second step later (as you don't have to retreive the valve cover to do it).

You mean the coolant surge tank or ? Main problem is I don't have a shop and I'm running out of good weather besides my old bones and eyes don't work so good . Not sure if cams are welded and I'm not sure if I want to go that far.

The surge tank is where the air goes after the throttle body. It's litterally "on" the rear head.

In which state are you ? I must admit this job can take some hours the first time. If you're depending of weather, isn't funny. Do you have friend that had garage ? In my city (Québec), we have some places renting garage spaces to make car repairs with lifts and all the stuff. they rent them by hour. I will be glad to help you with this job but I'm probably very far of you.

It's your only car ? Most of the time, these old SHO tend to be the second car of a fleet because of their age.

I'm in Oregon. I have plenty of vehicles to drive but prefer the sho.
I do have a barn with a unlevel dirt floor. I think it would be easier outside though. I can work between showers.
