New guy i just purchased 89 mtx, it starts and runs fine, but will not idle will just die if you do not feather the gas pedal, any ideas would be greatly apreciated

Try cleaning the Idle Air Bypass

Sounds like that could be the problem. The IAB is located on the intake nearest the throttle body. It is the gray colored metal piece attached to the runner side of the intake directly after the TB meets the intake. This link at shotimes should help you: http://shotimes.com/SHO3iabclean.html .
