Hears the story. My car started to knock slightly at 3000 rpm. I was told that it wasnt anything major. so i put some valvelifter noise stoper in the engine. Then the knocking stoped. I drove her for about 3 months like that. Then all of a sudden on the freeway on day the knocking got real loud. So i drove her the 20 miles home at no more than 10 miles per hour. Got her home and took her apart to find that on my #2 piston the bearing was completly gone. It wasnt even a trace of it in the oil or the pan. So i did the wrong thing an went to ford and ordered a standard bearing for 40 bucks for just one rod. I put it in and it still knocked. so I took it out and got a 0.50mm form a machine shop for 10 bucks were i should have went in the first place. So i put that one in and it stoped knocking for 2 days. Then it did just like it did on the freeway the first time. It just got loud again. My crank journal doesnt look any more worn than anyone elses crank ive seen on the fourum. So i dont think thats the problem. I think my problem is the 50mm didnt give it enough space for oil. I didnt know it needed space for an oil film . So i mesured the crank an its with then the size of an 0.25mm bearing. So i was wondering if the is any thing else i need to know. And is putting a 25mm bearing in a waist of time? Sorry for such a long post but this is my first and i wanted to make it good.

Hate to tell you this but your crank is toast, you either need a new one or get the old one reground and use oversize bearings.

Toast,

Yea, toast.

If there was no bearing in one of the rods, either the rod is ovalized or the crank is. In either case, the oil pump cannot supply enough oil for the huge gap left by the hammering rod.
When a rod is Knocking, it only knocks on about a third of the crankshaft journal, the rest is left alone.

Toast.

Sorry to hear about it.

So would it be easyer to do an engine swap or get the crank regrounded. And is it possible to remove the crank while its still in the car?
