I finally have a chance to take some pictures and introduce myself. I had a post going in another part of the forums for a while asking questions about an SHO I wanted to buy. Everyone was very helpful and I ended up buying the car. So here are the pics I promised. I've been a Toyota nut for years, and do all my own maintenance/repairs on my vehicles. I've had a number of project cars in the past. Interestingly, Yamaha has developed a lot of engines for Toyota too - and focuses lots on head design.
Car is a 1993 ATX. The body and interior are really clean. The drive train is in good shape and solid for the most part, but is in dire need of a full 60,000mile tune up. The car has 203,000kms on it.
So far I've fixed plugged sunroof drains, cleaned the MAF sensor, changed the engine oil to mobil 1 synthetic, cleaned and detailed the interior, cleaned out plugged egr passages, fixed the overdrive solenoid with a c-clip. I've installed NGK ignition leads and NGK iridium plugs. I've changed the ATF fluid to valvoline high mileage ATF fluid and a new OEM ATF filter. I also replaced the alternator with a rebuilt unit. Just before I got the car it had new tires (on 15" sable rims), a new windshield, new starter and new brakes all around.
I have the SHO rims and plan to put some new tires on them soon. I also plan on doing the timing belt, front seals and valve cover seals soon. And maybe water pump, and crank/cam sensors.
I've got dozens of other minor things to fix like:
- power antenna has some issues
- cd player doesnt work
- hvac buttons are pushed in
- stereo buttons by steering wheel don't work
- steering has play in it
- remote gas cap opener handle is broken
- spare tire nut is missing in action
- sunroof shade is gone
- ebrake pedal rubber cover is gone
- fog lights don't work
- struts could use replacement
- etc. etc.
I'm super happy with the car though, and with a little more elbow grease, it'll be in pretty mint shape.
My wife is ****** that I'm spending so much time on the car...but I think I'm an addict already and can't help it....haha. I love this car; and its fun discovering all the options and features it has. My other car is an 87 Toyota MR2. (which I now want to put an SHO engine into...haha!).
Anyhow, here are some pics, hopefully they work.
