New to car...how to start?

Hi everybody. My name is Chuol. I have just recieved a nice looking Ford Taurus SHO from a donation program and it is said to be a 5-speed. I never drove one and only automatic. My problems is when I go to start and turn the key, it just tries to start but can't. I was told from the company, it was a company car that only has the original 27k miles and is in very excellent shape paint wise and interior. The car has tint too. Another thing is that this car has 4 pedals, one for the gas and brake, then the one for the e-brake and some unknown weird pedal between the e-brake and brake. Why does this car have it? Is there two brakes for each side of the car? I'm kind of new to cars and don't know much. My last was a automatic 4X4 jeep and only car. I need bad help as I can't start it. I turn the key and nothing but the motor trying. shrug Thank you very much for help.

I have forgot to say that the guy drove the car to me and left it along with a year long free gas money. He had it running but for some reason it will not start.

Ok, to start the car simply apply the clutch (The third pedal to the left), and hold that down as you are turning the key, once you have done that release the clutch, since you are not familiar with Manual transmission cars, i suggest you get a automatic, or have somone teach you how to drive stick, because if you think starting is hard, driving it would be ....well challenging, if this is a joke, i just wasted alot of typing.

The first thing you will want to do, is get in there and make sure that it has 5 speeds. Just take the transmission out through the fender well (turn the steering wheel all the way to the right to give yourself room to pull it out) and count the speeds. Make sure you have at least 5 speeds. 5 is normal, 6 is even better, and one guy (Ransom) has 8! After you count the speeds, put the transmission back in. Make sure you put it in right, or you will have 1 speed forward, and 4 in reverse.
Once you have verified your # of speeds, make sure the car is plugged in. Very few of the cars overseas have a battery start. They need 110 or 220 volt power, to get them started. (if you have to use 110, the car will not go as fast)
As for that other pedal, I wouldn't use it, until you are comfortable driving the car OR if you run into bad weather. It took me about a year to get good enough to use mine.

This must be a joke! If someone never drove a 5 speed. I would think that they would know what a cluch is. So they would be saying that this is the only MTX they have ever seen. How many SHOs are in Africa?

Guys, I have tried the 3 pedal to left and it started, but when I let off of it like I was told. The car like started choking and went off. shrug I'm ready to learn. I never drove one guys, my family is new to this too and we are African. As for how many SHO's are in Africa, I don't know..never saw any.

Ok, first of all, the car is a 5 speed tranmission , also, you really need to find somone to teach you how to drive a manual transmission, because when just learning how to drive it, it can be tricky, i wish you good luck, and welcome to the SHOforum

I'm going to go WAY out on a limb and assume that this is no joke, and that you are dead serious. The kind of help that you need, none of us can give you. It is obvious to me that you have no clue how to drive a manual transmission vehicle. I suggest you find and enroll in a driving school. Get someone to show you "hands on" how to drive.

Bad news people. I start my car and keep the pedal down while I had a big stick to put between the seat and pedal to keep it down with out me in car. Well I went back to the car a hour later and it was on fire. I thought it would help sitting there so it won't choke again. There was fire coming from the front of the hood and sides and a little underneath. We are letting it burn because we have very little water to drink and don't want to waste it. The car is good distance away from us. What can I expect when it's burning? Will it melt to metal? There is no emergency people in or around us and is why we needed the car. I was always told from childhood that cars where devils and now I believe. I'm happy I was not in car.
