So the started died while I was at Autozone. So I bought the Duralast DL3198 while I waited for the tow truck. I put the new starter in but now I don't know how to connect the wires. The New connectors aren't the same. I have a red wire with a slide connector but no slide connector on the new starter. And a black wire that looks like its suppose to go the houseing but there was no bolt provided with the part. Anybody know what the size and thread of that bolt is supposed to be?

sounds like you have a gen 2 wiring set up and a gen 1 starter from autozone. Does the starter you have now have a solinoid on the starter with 2 posts and a slide connector? Does the starter you just installed look anything like the starter you took off?

The starter I took off does have something on the side of the motor (not sure if its a solenoid or not) with two posts. The new starter is one big round motor. Can I use it or do I have to return it for the right one?

This is a Gen I starter (Lester 3198):
41 1

This is a Gen 2 starter (Lester 3230):
92 1

This is a Gen 3 starter (Lester 3266):
Bd 1

You'll want to replace whatever starter was on your car with the identical style. On the Gen 2 and early Gen 3 starters, factory versions used a spade lug for the S-terminal, while newer versions and most replacements use a ring terminal and post (usually a 10mm nut, always the smallest post on the solenoid) and usually with a new/reman starter you'll get a short retrofit wire with a ring lug to splice into the factory harness, or a ring-to spade adapter.

Mr. A beat me to it.... but just to add...

According to AutoZone's Catalog there are three...

89-91 Starter (AutoZone P/N: DL3198)

92 MTX/93 ATX Starter (AutoZone P/N: DL3204S)

93-95 MTX/94-95 ATX Starter (AutoZone P/N: DL3295S)

Note: I believe the 3204 and 3295 starters can be interchanged with each other, the only difference being the number of teeth on the starter gear.

Please correct me if any of this is in error.

Well, as luck would have it, the old one is the Gen II. Now I have to take the new (Gen I) out and exchange it for the Gen II. Which is more than double the price by the way...
