This morning, for the fourth time, I experienced an issue where my SHO shuts itself off on its own. The first time it happened was about a month or so ago. I was pulling out of a store and it just shut off in the middle of the road. It started right back up with no CEL or anything and I didn't think much of it. The most recent three times have all been in the past 2 weeks. The second time, early in the morning I'd gone for a short drive and shortly into it the engine began chugging, I'm assuming in a similar manner to the attached video of what happened this morning, before all power to the vehicle cut out. This happened many times but I was able to baby it the short rest of the way home.

Between the first and second experience and without experiencing any problems with the vehicle, one very cold morning I went out and started up and the CEL was on. I thought it was weird so I went to AutoZone for a scan and I got P0627 Fuel Pump Control Circuit/ Open and P0087 Fuel Rail/ System Pressure- Too Low. The guy there said it sounded like my fuel pump was going bad.

The third experience happened the day following the second and I didn't notice any chugging beforehand but when I went to accelerate pulling into the busiest intersection in town the vehicle totally cut out. It started right back up but at this point I'd been getting nervous. I learned 13-15 Tarurus' had a fuel pump module recall but my VIN says my vehicle is not affected.

This morning it was 2 degrees out and I used the remote startup and went around the corner for awhile before heading out to work. I noticed the vehicle was off when I was out there. When I started it back up, after around 40-60 seconds the vehicle continuously exhibited the same behavior as in the same attached video as previously linked.

I have about zero mechanical inclination so I'm looking for any advice I can get.

How many miles on it? Could just be a fuel filter. Ive never done one on this platform and i dont even know where its at. But it could be a start. If filter is real bad the pressure from the filter to the engine will be low and the pressure from the filter to the pump in the tank (if it even has one) would be high, enough to trip the pump out. Im speaking of other vehicles with in tank pumps from my EXP

You need to look at diagnostic trouble codes. You don't always need a check engine light staying on to have them stored. Off the cuff, sounds like a what a bad crank sensor used to do in the older cars or fuel problem. There is all kinds of data being logged while it's running. You just need to get stored codes or, in addition, access to advanced diagnostics to pinpoint the problem. If this is consistent you can get a fuel pressure gauge on it and all manner of tests.

First order of operations is to see if there are stored codes to help narrow the field of possibilities.

Have seen the P0087 code before, but not the P0627. Could be a pump issue or a wiring issue.

Filters are the "permanent" type on these vehicles, mounted directly to the pump.

The 627 code is a circuit fault between the fuel pump driver module and the electric in fuel tank pump. This could be the driver, the wires from the driver to the pump, or the pump itself.

If the low pressure electric fuel pump isn't working, the high pressure pump wont build pressure and you will get the 87 code for low pressure when cranking.

The module seems to be in the right rear behind the back seat and trunk trim. You be testing a white brown wire and a yellow grey wire.

They narrow the recalls as much as possible even when the designs are exactly the same or comparable. There is no schrader valve to put a gauge on for fuel pressure readings and the system is a high/low pressure 2 pump system. I'm sure there is a way to splice a T fitting into fuel lines to add a gauge but I haven't ever done it on a car, so I can't even say how effective that will be. Especially if you need to drive it for a short time to make the issue appear.

That module mentioned above might be in the right direction. I would consider a costly diagnostic to pinpoint air/fuel/spark in real time. But I'm not sure about the cost. You could always see which year fuel modules are interchangeable and shop around for a cheap used one. No guarantee that's the issue so personal cost benefit analysis for your car down time vs money is required.

You have an extended warranty?

Update: I replaced the fuel pump module and so far so good. Unfortunately, I have since developed a major coolant leak. I'm also looking for assistance with that, should I make a new post?
