Hey guys,

I've introduced myself in the welcome section, but I'll post some pics and stuff here...

A wee history of my Leprechaun coloured SHO with 208,000km's

Saw an ad on the net..."Taurus 4 door for sale" , noticed the pic had "SHO" on the bumper...

Went and saw it, took a drive, paid cash. Don't think the guy knew what an SHO was. :)

So I got it home, and here are some pics..

I bought it last Thursday night. Friday changed the front calipers and did an oil flush and change.

For this I chose a Wix filter for the flush. Amsoil engine flush, and for the oil chose Amsoil SSO 0w-30 and an Amsoil EAO filter. I also added PI Injector additive to the fuel system.

Saturday I drove it from Montreal to Toronto, and came back Monday. I took a chance, but did an inspection on the car, looked ok. I ended up doing 2000km's throughout the weekend. On a full tank city and highway, mostly between 100-140km/hour I got about 550km's to a full tank.

It got me home and ran pretty well.

So, as for the oil. When I got it, it started...ok...and chugged a bit. At a stop light, it will sometimes dip to 750rpm or so causing a slight vibration in the car, kinda annoying actually. If I feather the gas, it goes away. I suspect the IAC. There was also a slight tap. After the flush and oil change, it starts much healthier and drives smoother. There is no more tap whatsoever and sounds better. I'm more than happy with this result. I'll be doing an oil sample at 5000km's to see what's going on in the bloodline of the car.

The transmission can shift hard at times. I will change the fluid and see what comes of it. The ATX does not slip and generally feels ok.

I will replace both tie rods, and maybe more depending furthur inspection.

Power antenna does not work, but will put a fixed one after reading around the forum.

I will also overhaul the rear brakes. I don't think they work at all. The rotors are just as rusty looking now as when I got it, so I dont suspect they work whatsoever.

All the interior stuff works minus the left rear window, which again, after reading around here, is common. The overdrive button didn't work until I found a homemade switch under the seat....go figure.

I will probably replace the door trims because even with the sunroof closed, it's kinda noisy.

There is a bit of bodywork to be done, but I'll probably get the whole thing done after the winter.

My handheld says something wrong is with the fuel system, secondary unit. My guess is something to do with the fuel guage since it suddenly started working yesterday. There is an exhaust leak somewhere and I'll probably replace the 02 sensor(s?)

So ya, that's that! I love it! And feedback is welcome!

Cheers guys!

your rear brakes don't work because the lines have collapsed. it's common for rust to build up under the metal clip that secures the line to the strut, crushing the brake line. simple fix, but your calipers are probably crap, too. as for the fuel system...lemme guess. code 142? fuel pump secondary circuit failure? that code is generally thrown when the engine stalls at some point. if it doesn't pop back up, i wouldn't even worry about it.

ah ok, so I need to replace the lines perhaps or clean em up?

I'll dump the code and see what happens, and yes, that's the code that it spit out...

Thanks!

the lines that'll need replacing are the soft lines in the wheel wells. i'm not sure about you, but my philosophy tends to be if i gotta replace it, i may as well upgrade it. in other words, this is a good excuse to pick up a set of stainless brake lines and replace all 4.

Yup , but the calipers might be seized too , due to not working for that long. But replace your lines first , its the first thing to do.

You could replace your O2s but you get a fairly good MPG , and that's why we change them , Bad MPG or codes.

You could run the codes to see what's up. http://www.shophoenixproject.com/eec/eec.htm

Tranny flush and new filter along with a bottle of lucas will help alot, ive seen cars go from not driveable to driving like it had 100k less on it, how long that'll last is a toss up, but the stuff does work.

Thanks!

So I changed the caliper in the rear (driver) but there's no fluid getting to it. I'll have to get some and run new lines I presume. The caliper was super rusty and thought it'd be better to change it anyway...

Any tricks on getting the parking brake cable put back on? I can't get the wire to come out more than 1/2 an inch....grrrrrr......

best of luck to you on that. parking brake cables have always been a hated part of the process for me. and like i said, just replace that short section of soft line, and you'll have brakes again.

He might not have brakes again if the prop valve is seized. If it was i'd just buy bias plugs as long as your abs is working.
I'd also replace the hoses they are cheap.
For the cables if you can adjust the tension relieve some of it then re adjust. The bolt will probably too rusted though.

Work hard bud...I got lucky, when I was 20 I got a good paying job, worked hard, did overtime, my dad, my brother and myself built the shop originally for us, then I opened Woods Racing, that took off, then I took over Canada Synthetics.ca...I'm now 30 and run 2 business'...I still work for the other job, (drive trains around a switching yard) but only on weekends (mind you, I do 40 hours in 2 1/2 days there) I put in over 80 hours weekly, and still find time to race and be with my sweetheart....but you can do it too....put your head down and get to it!
