Long story short...
Took my 2011 in to get new tires. After the service manager pulled it up for me he said to me as he came back into the lobby,"That thing sure sounds nice!" The only problem is that when you are in the car you can barely hear a thing. I nodded and paid my bill and as I pulled out I noticed a low rumbling noise, kind of throaty, and behind that a faint whine. I turned around and explained to them that my car didn't sound like this when I dropped it off. They gave me a voucher for a free check up at some local shady repair shop. A quick inspection underneath yielded no obvious damage. Any ideas???

Wheel bearing maybe? Does it change when you are turning one way or another?

Next would be an exhaust leak but being as they were messing with the wheels...

Did they align the car after the new shoes? Did you get different tires than before? Road noise?

Good questions. The sound definitely reacts to my foot. As I am driving I can hear the sounds change during acceleration. Not a wheel bearing. Something has changed with the aspiration and exhaust.

Have you tried going down hill? Let off the gas and see if the noise still gets louder as you speed up?

If it wasn't doing it before they switched the tires, it would be very coincidental that you developed an exhaust issue at the same time :-\
