Okay, due to the overwhelming response both here and locally, I'm looking into making these mounts in small batches to sell.

This isn't a feeler, I'm just letting people know so they stop wondering/asking if I will be making these. I will post a group buy/vendor thread through the proper channels when I have something figured out. I will be making a rear mount as well. Price should be quite a bit less than stock OEM mounts, (which are obsolete now?).

Thanks for all the encouragement, I half expected a big flame war over some small detail of the mount.

ZOMG A RUN OF PAINT! That's it, I don't want to have anything to do with these, ever. And I hate you. How DARE you let a bit of paint run on these DIY made-in-an-hour motor mounts? You callous BASTARD.

^^ rather unlikely, no?

I likey! I'm with Tim, let me know when they're for sale.

They remind me a little of the Cusco mounts for the STi.

My suggestion would be to do a lot of stress testing before making conclusions. The suspended surface area on the stock mounts appears to be many times larger than what you'll have with your design, so there may be some differences in performance and longevity. The material you use will make a big difference as well, naturally.

In my experience the main issue with the stock mounts was the rubber tearing over time (which should tell you something about the forces at work there). Other than that I don't know of any issues with them. It could be that a more modern material would solve that problem.

These look very interesting, but only time and trial will tell. You should make up a few sets of them and give them out to various members to use and evaluate.:naughty:

I would start with the rear engine mount from a 2000-ish Taurus 3.0. it looks very much like the one in the first photo in the first post, but it already has the threaded stud to go through the subframe. then, you just need the steel plates for the side pieces, which I'm betting can be scavenged from the original front motor mount.

good to see people still trying to keep these cars going..

hope you get a good price worked out for them..

personally my OEM mounts with 2 bolts threw them work perfect and never let me down..

changing mounts might take some serious testing tho, my first bolted mounts i had snapped the bolts because i was using grade 5 even tho it was a 5/8 bolt..
stepped up to grade 8 and they worked fine ever since even with some hard abuse foward and reverse.

speaking of the design your using there was several MMs used to upgrade jeeps and they have the same setup except the good ones have a washer welded to the sides to keep the rubber from flexing outside, for the full rubber ones im talking.

good luck on the setup

So far I've had no problems with the mount, and I've picked up some more tools that would make fabrication easier.

On the other hand, I'm very busy with other projects and have no time to produce these to sell right now. That may change shortly, but I can't say for sure.
