I'm pretty excited! I ordered the intercooler and cat'd down pipes yesterday!

With a 3 bar and a Gearhead tune, what kind of hp and tq numbers should I expect? ...Im trying to curtail my excitement somewhat. I've heard that the intercooler is worth about 40 and the down pipes are worth about 20. Is that about right?

Is that wheel!?! My last Dyno was on a mustang dyno. With only a 3 bar and AJPTurbos tune, I pulled 321 awhp.

Just to be clear on the "gain" from the intercooler from what I've gathered. You don't "gain" 40 horsepower, but instead "get back" what you had lost due to heat soaking. Yes, that's a "gain" but it's really just getting back what you were losing. The downpipes on the other hand, you do "gain" power because you are making more than you had before.

You are not gaining power from DPs. You are just getting back what you were losing with the restrictive stock DPs. :poke:

After I submitted my post, I thought about it more and you are without a doubt correct. Both mods are reducing a restriction of the factory offering and more than worth doing.

So you we should do the inter cooker or the dp mods that’s what you are saying

It depends. I would personally do DP's first, then the intercooler. The restrictive DP's hurts the car more IMO then not having the intercooler.

Without a doubt, I would do both mods. However, it's hard to convince myself to drop ~$1600 because the majority of the time, I'm cruising to and from work. As SM105K said, I would do dp's first and then an intercooler or if you can swing it, do both at the same time.

So, I'm probably not supposed to tell everything this but, I got a helluva deal! They gave it to me for free! All I had to do was pay $799 for a phone call to answer my questions.

I got the cat'd downpipes from PPE's site, directly. No special prices...

So what about the hot pipes? Won't those be the next serious restriction? Or is it now a combination of things, which doing the hot pipes will not exacerbate (yeah, I just like using that word; it sounds dirty).

Yeah truly aren't needed. Are they an upgrade? Yes. Do you want them? Yes.

They aren't a restriction as much as the stock pipes are a potential future boost leak. I replaced the rubber pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body with a hard pipe, but have not done the hot pipes yet. I figure I will wait til either I have a boost leak, or my bank account recovers from all the mods I have added this year and begins to grow to an uncomfortable level again.

Actually, I've replaced intake tubing (or whatever you want to call it) on other cars.....they never seem to fit quite right, or stay connected under stress (not good for a turbo application). AND...I really like having a car this responsive, be so quiet! So I'm not sure I DO want them.... :)

My question was more along the lines of; with me increasing the amount of air the engine is able to move, are the hot pipes now the greatest restriction. It sounds like the answer to that is "no", which is somewhat surprising, given how many bends (as well as how narrow they get), in places.

The stock fuel pump is the biggest impediment to power once you do the intercooler and downpipes.
