Although the swift action by the SHOForum Staff is much appreciated......

It seems like the spam attacks are multiplying with each passing day.

There seem to be between one, to three dozen spam postings each and every day.

Reporting all of it (each day) is becoming not only a major PITA, but also is deterring from visiting overall.

Is there a better security patch, or some type of additional upgrade to the forum's software, to keep all these 3rd world idiots at bay?

TIA

I have a suggestion - when a new user signs up, require a 24 hour waiting period (or more) before they are allowed to start new threads. This is very common in the forum world, and should cut down on the spam at least some, because the dingbats will need to remember their screennames for at least a day...

That might work. The ones I am seeing all have the same link at the bottom which appears like a program was written to sign up and post. Maybe one of those logon scrambles with the wavy letters and numbers that require to type those in could block this stuff?

Yes there should be a way to block without resorting to anything new. The IP bans in place now might do it. If you keep seeing spam update this thread.

There is a software update I will install.

Thanks Jordan for going the extra mile to prevent all these spammers.

Much appreciated, & will be sure to keep you updated if anymore should sneak through your iron spam curtain.

thanks Jordan - if past history serves, you can do the manual requirement for about a month and then revert back - they will have given up by then and moved on to other sites, and we should be okay for several months or more.

@rubydist Thanks. That is comforting to know that this has worked in the past.
