I bought a used 1998 SHO V8 with 180,000 miles on it that was maintained well. The cam gears welded, all service bulletins done by Ford. I had the AT removed and completely rebuilt by a local shop (LA area) that does this a lot due to engine shifting issues. The car runs well but has hadthe "oil pressure" light come on and flicker after exiting the freeway and sitting at a light. Oil level OK, run synthetic 10-40. Thinking of dropping oil pan and renew bearings. Is there an oil pump upgrade for the V8?

Are the con rod bearings readily available? What about any gaskets? The oil pan is a "sealant design" for sealing but not sure about the oil pump and oil screen-any advice?

Hey welcome! I would replace the rod bearings. They are available I believe. There is no upgrade on the oil pump.

Had a shop that is familiar with the SHO cars drop the pan and inspect. Everything looks clean and tight. The oil pressure sensor was also replaced and I will go back to my usual commute on the LA freeway system - slow driving stop and go for miles! Then engine does not ever get up to above normal temperature and stays low for the entire drive even with the AC on. Next is to reupholster the front and rear seats. The trunk mounted CD changer/player is not working and I do not think there is a replacement unit that will mount in place of the OEM unit. Any suggestions? The cassette player works great! Back to boxes of tapes....Fred
