Alright instead of just going with new gauge , am tossing around the idea of stealing the whole gauge cluster from a 98+ Lincoln Continentals with the electroluminescent needles etc, anyone ever done or know anything about a possible swap?

I'm not sure if those clusters use electronic speedo's, that right there would be my biggest concern, that and if the signals that are sent to our clusters for the electronic gauges would work with the continentals....not to mention the whole fitment issue.

Fitment would be the biggest thing. Those Continental clusters are very deep and may not fit well in the SHO dash. Electronics should not be a big problems since there is already an electronic speed sensor output on the SHO.

It would look cool. I had to look this up to see what it looked like.

120 mph speedo and 7K tach though. I don't really care too much about the speedo but the tach would be annoying as I plan on raising my rev limiter to 7800 or so with the cams. I'd have to convert my interior LED's to green illumination instead of blue though.

I wonder if any other gauge clusters would fit besides the digital dashes. IIRC, the earlier Conti's had a cluster similar to the SHO's? I'm going to look that up now.

Those earlier Continentals all had digital dashes. AFAIK the only other one that might work would be one from a Windstar. They had a different digital cluster available but the tach stops at 6k....

Okay then you can have silver or any color:

If you go to Speedhut you can make them any way you want. Very much worth it and good quality.

Why not a totally custom cluster? You could start with a stock SHO cluster so you could have all the warning lights but you could remove the stock gauges, make a blank plate to cover the holes, and replace them with nice aftermarket units.

I looked at doing an autometer dash with the tach where the speedo is and vice versa. Its gonna be $$$ but it would look cool as ****.

I mocked up a spare cluster with printed out copies of gauges (actual size) taped over the cluster. It's doable but expensive as Kevin says. If I want everything to match, I'd have to stick with a Cobalt speedo and tach which will be mad cash. I'm also not sure how happy I'd be with an aftermarket fuel gauge. As I understand, the senders don't have an anti bob provision which means that the needle will bounce every time the car goes over a bump or takes a turn fairly hard.

Oh, and the smallest autometer speedos and tachs are still fairly large. Large enough that the indicator lights would probably need to be relocated for this to work. The cluster is also larger than the opening that it sits in so there may be some overlap that prevents the entire gauge from being seen.

If I could do it by removing the bezels and housings from the gauge and flush mounting everything, it would look a lot better than just making holes in a cluser and dropping the gauges in.
