Just recently my fuel pump has aquired a new sound. It seems to be very very loud now, you can hear it from outside of the car... take into consideration that I have 3 breaks in my exhaust to hear it over... Should i be worried about it going out on me soon? I really don't think it has been replaced either... and i've just passed 202k miles.... I would like to know if i need to cancel my 60k job in order to get the pump replaced.

thanks guys.

no one know??? Well i guess temporarily it has quited down... so idk wtf happened. Possibly something infront of the screen (I really hope not) and obstructing it, making it work harder... ah well

Replace that filter for sure, they don't cost much.

And if you've been hearing noises I would get ready for the cost of a new pump...

Just checked AZ.com, you can get a Master fuel pump (not including the sender unit) for $56. You also need the strainer which is $8.

So that's not bad. thumb

Oh i know that pumps aren't that bad in price... just that i'm not really wanting to do it myself... i put a new pump in my camaro... put on in a jeep cherokee... and these were done on lifts with many tools at hand...AND WARM... and i really dont' want to mess with my rust and breaking and what not... so i'll change out the filter and see what's up.... I think it was changed within the last year or so.

Ah well.. it has quieted though  well we'll see what happens.
thanks for the imput

When my fuel pump went bad it was basically just a high pitched whine, heard best by the rear axle. Rememinded me of the squeel a TV makes when the volume is all the way down, but lower in tone. At first I didn't know what it was, but I noticed that the more fuel was in the tank, the better the car ran. I clearly remember not being able to pass 100mph on a road that I normally could do 120mph on easily, and the cause was that I had about an 1/8 tank of gas. It almost cost me a victory. I got it replaced, but the right part was NOT cheap. The entire job cost me $400. The whine went away, and the fuel quantity was no long an issue, but at quite a price. Talk to a Ford dealer before you go and buy one off the net.

Mine's no where near a high pitched sound... And a fuel pump is not somthing i'm planning to buy over the net anyways. Chances are it's gonna be for a SLO or something. I'll figure it out.
