My only concern are the caliper brackets fitment , I DID NOT TRIED IT.

Late Freestars , bolt patern 5x108 front dual pistons calipers PBR , 11.5" front rotors and 12.4 rears.

On rockauto , the calipers are like 50$ each /front.

I thought some people might wanted to know this , I think it's pretty interesting , I will consider it to put it on mine.

Probably some fabbing will be involved.

Thats a really cool mod I'm definitely going to be trying this out next summer. I'm guessing all hat needs to be made is a bracket to hold the caliper bracket. Probably no welding involved.

My car is faster then it can stop :(.

Yeah i cannot find any dual piston calipers for the Freestar, the Freestyle has duals. Its 12.5-in x 28 mm vented disc, dual-piston aluminum caliper. :dribble:

I'm pretty sure that Ford went to 5 x 4.5 on the Freestars.

Aren't they the same as the old Mustang GT calipers/rotors? If so, you can use the 10.9" rotors that came with the 94/95 SHOs.

Aren't those the same as the GT calipers? They're fine for the street, and it's a good thing there are no track pads for them as the calipers are too weak for track use. There are lots of pics floating around teh intarweb of the light PBR calipers (like these) that have spread open from heat during track use.

No, not the GT calipers, the calipers pictured above are truck (Freestar) calipers that appear almost identical to the ones on my 99 Windstar. They are cast iron to deal with the higher heat generated in braking a 4500 lb vehicle, and are quite heavy comapred to the common aluminum calipers on the Tuaurus, Mustag GT, Cobra etc.

If your not intereted in racing, then theres no need for new brakes unless your going for looks. The stock brakes will hold up to their designed 1 panic stop. If your doing more than 1 panic stop in a row on the street then there's something wrong. Still this project could lead to a cheap alternative to the cobra calipers. There are some things to consider though: 1. Cast iron should hold heat worse than aluminum (think cast iron pan), its not a benefit its a problem. Heat in the caliper will not allow brake fluid to cool and could cause the fluid to boil more rapidly 2. Cast iron is heavy, especially a 2 piston one. Unsprung weight through the roof. 3. If you want to upgrade to 13" rotors down the line, it means new calipers. 4. A better pad on the stock setup maybe better than a mediocre pad on this new setup. Then again if it just for the street none of those things matter.
