new engine wont start...need help

ok i think it is either the starter or the solenoid, not sure which...everything is hooked up correctly, double checked that...what happens is when u turn the key over, the solenoid will click, but for some reason with the key off, u can take a screwdriver and touch hot and ground together on the solenoid and it will spark...any ideas...any help is greatly appreciated.. thanks... john

Is the battery charged? A weak battery will still spark at the starter but it could not be powerful enough to turn the engine over.

yea the battery is fine all the lights and everything else electrical works great...i am jus out of ideas except a bad starter or solenoid....

If the car didnt have a problem turning over before hand, i would say the solenoid is bad and not the actual starter motor. Those can go out any time but the starter usually starts giving hints that its gonna push up some daises.
