I wonder if there is another Ford CPS that could be modified for the SHO. The mustang/ranger version from that time frame is similar

This looks closer, it is from a Thunderbird SC, length looks shorter. These cars were a limited run as well, so they may have the same issue

I was thinking about that when I realized these things were running out. There has to be a way to rig up something. Like using one of those and splicing in SHO wiring if needed or something.

For the price of these, it wouldn't take much to buy one so they can be compared. The question is do they output the same signal that is needed. Is anyone familar with the Ranger 2.3L engine from 93/94?

Yes I saw that. I went to that sellers website to see how much they had it listed for and it was way less but it said out of stock. Hopefully someone can make this work with one of those two sensors. I guess you'd need a scope to confirm it or just try it and see what happens.

The one from the thunderbird sc may put out the same signal. I guess you could look up the diagnostic flow charts for testing the crank sensors and see if they have any values that can be used for a resistance test.

The thunderbird uses the same camshaft sensor so this should work, but they seem like they are unobtanium as well.

On Zach (Blue Turd) Facebook page, it looks like he used a MOTEC hall effect crank sensor on his car. Anyone know any more about this set up?

I have one of those inexpensive Ranger/Mustang sensors ordered and will compare the two. NOS Motorcraft sensors pop up on ebay from time to time. I found one a couple of months ago so I will be able to compare the two.

for anyone interested. I just learned something invaluable. Tefzel manufactures wiring for aircraft it meets their specifications and it's the same price as normal crap wire i've purchased for years. They make shielded single, double and triple pole wire. The ground wire on our cps actually just connects to the shielding.

There is also a company called techflex. They make flexo tightbraid which is a unique and different type of wire loom. It also meets avionic specs.

I recently purchased some of this style wire loom after seeing it on equipment at work. Strangely enough the day after I purchased it I was chasing wiring issues at work and I found out that it had rubbed through in various places on the machine. I don't believe it's as abrasion resistant as the normal corrugated style but this brand I just found may very well be. It is made with much thicker monofilament and it is a very tight weave. I'm going to try it.

With heat shrink on the ends it looks very clean. The image is just for reference, I wouldn't use it on hydraulics the only thing that lasts on our equipment is a very heavy cloth braid made by eaton.

I wasn't going to say anything but last order I placed ended up getting refunded because it didn't ship for three weeks or longer. I read the shipping disclaimer.

The parts are close, but not exactly the same.

The length of the wire of the Ranger CPS is longer than the SHO
The gray connectors appear to be the same, but the black connector alignment guide is different so that would need to be swap
The wires exit the back of the sensor in different locations
The thickness is slightly different but could probably be modified

I am not sure where the sensor is located on the Ranger CPS. Before I cut it apart, does anyone know what the differences were between the Ranger and Mustang or which gap (upper or lower) the vane passes through.

From what I can find on the internet and cross checking the SHO EVTM manual, the signal into the CPS appears to be the same (different terminology). I am going to try and cut off the bottom hat section to see if there is anything in there.

So it looks like the 2.3L engine has two coil packs and 8 spark plugs. This could be the reason for sending two separate signals as describe in the link below (and the reason for another sensor in the bottom section).
