The pun never ends ya'll. Yikes, 2 in a row.
"Where'd you get the SHO?"
- I was hunting for an A to B car for work, with a budget of about 2K. I didn't really care what car it was as long as it was in decent shape and had no major problems. I had mentioned some vague detail about the SHO when shooting the breeze with my Dad one day in the garage because I had caught a glimpse of one somewhere on the road. This was 2-3 months prior to the hunt. He said they had a lot of transmission/engine problems and were junk more or less. I took his word for it although he was referring to the 3rd gen, and told myself it was a bad idea.
After browsing abused rust buckets for a couple months I forgot the SHO existed, and then I somehow came across a red 94' ATX on craigslist.
The 2nd owner was using this car as an A-B car to work (irony) just 20 miles a day or so on country roads. It was carport/shed kept its whole life with only 2 tiny rust spots on the rear fenders, and the paint was spotless except for some slight bubbling on the trunk. There was one detail unmentioned prior to arriving...the oil pan gasket had a tiny leak, which got oil on the catalytic converter when it was warm and running. I thought it was going to drive horrible until I got behind the wheel for a test drive. Throttle response was precision, the power was certainly there, and the transmission seemed fine too. The car also had the Yamaha text on the front/rear badges haha. After a quick self inspection of it, I bought the car that day for $1500 with a huge grin on my face.
I drove the SHO a few hours back to the house with no problems at all and decided to really spend some time combing it over. The problems mentioned prior to buying was the brake line leaking kinda close to the mastercylinder around a small chunk of aluminum, AC not working, no horn, and the ABS light was on possibly due to a sensor, but it has since vanished.
What did you find?
Will this post ever end?
Yeah, and that's my story everyone ^-^ I look forward to getting everything corrected on the car and will see you in the forums!

- I love this car.
- An AUX cord cassette tape thingy which made my day better
- A 2 year supply of safety glasses and earplugs.
- The owner didn't want to do any "hard" work. He took great care of the car but avoided the more serious wrench turning, and I understand that completely.
- The coolant needs to be changed
- The shifter seemed kind of stiff to move but didn't have any play and always went into gear.
- The power steering fluid was toast, and I imagine the pump is too because it sounds like the wheel is cutting hard even when its not.
- I knew this prior to driving it but the oil needs changed. It was idling slightly rough with the oil light blinking lightly but I figured this was because the oil was very thin at this point. This lasted maybe 2-3 seconds at most. Thank goodness there wasn't any coolant in it.
- The tires were fair but upon closer inspection they had some very small cracking in the sidewall. They were gonna get replaced anyways.
- The ignition slot seems a little loose, but not loose enough to turn over without the key. Then again I didn't want to try too hard when testing it out...
- Speedometer wiggles a little but nothing extreme.
- The shocks/struts have got to be replaced, and probably the sway bars or at-least the bushings/links. I would imagine the lower control arms too.
