Anyone know if there is a way to have a switch "know" that the MTX is in neutral? This would be very beneficial for remote start applications. I'm thinking maybe some kind of mercury switch attached to the shifter shaft and will only produce an output based on the position of the mercury in the switch (like the one for the trunk light), for instance, it would only work if the shifter is dead nuts in the center neutral position. Anyone thoughts? Thanks.

Youve got a cool idea... thumbs_u I hope you keep working on it! wink

But the mercury switch wouldnt work all the time... to make it work it would have to be VERY precise (based upon orientation of the shifter right?) But what happens when you park on a slight incline? It all gets screwed up shrug

I am currently working on this for my 95 with autostart, since I autostarted my car through the garage door last year! Ouch!

Anyhow, the best way I have found, but haven't hooked up yet is a hall effect sensor. I bought a couple off ebay but I haven't had the chance to mess with it. It works just like the abs, crank/cam position sensors. When a magnet is placed in front of the sensor, one of the wires grounds or is open. There is a wire on my autostarter that when grounded will not let it start.

I am going to mount the sensor on a bracket and then put a magnet on the shifter stalk. I want to make mine so that the shifter has to be in neutral and to the left.

I like the hall effect sensor because it is solid state and should work every time without problems. I thought about a mercury switch but what happens when you park on an incline?

Any other thoughts?

FAST4DR, I like the idea of the hall switch. Tell me more when you can.
