my tranny is slipping badly but only in first once it gets past 5 mph its fine. it only did it when the fluid is hot but now it does it after one shift to second so i am stuck driving it in 2 but i cant drive it on the highway in 2 as i can only go 30 mph so would i be able to safely switch it to DRIVE while moving to go on the highway?

dont the atx's start off in second anyways ?

i know somedude has a hard time actualy getting the car into first when he wants to ...

but no, upshifting an automatic while driving wont hurt anything. transmissions are made to upshift

edit: and you can do 80 in second, lol

edit, u can do 90mph in 2nd.........

the brake pedal shouldn't effect too much, that could be a problem on the shfifter in the console........

it sounds like if its stuck in 2nd that your planetaries are welded up....... but it really shouldn't slip if thats the case.......

also could be electrical problem, or an electrical problem that burned up the tranny and its too late to fix... maybe need a new solenoid.......

Interlock only keeps you from shifting out of park, will not affect n-r-d.

I think he's talking about the button interlock on the shifter itself. i.e. you have to push the button in to shift from neutral to reverse. I think your manual position sensor might be hosed but it just sounds like it's rebuild time...

when i put it in reverse you could always hear a slight clunk. i was told it had something to do with the servo springs. when i put it in reverse today and didnt move anywhere i still heard that slight clunk like it was switching to reverse but the rpms go up and i dont move. would pulling codes help me at all?

As the others have pointed out, you can safely shift from either manual first ('1') or manual second ('2') into drive ('D') while the car is in motion and it will not harm the transmission. Under most circumstances, you can also travel at highway speeds for extended periods in second gear, should the situation call for it. The EEC will even force the transmission into second gear if the computer enters it's failure management mode (referred to as FMEM) due to a transmission or computer problem.

Only if the gear selector has been placed into manual second ('2') or there's an internal tranny problem.

I hate to say it, but I'd be willing to bet money that you're tranny is toast.
