Or you could just find a set of SS springs?

Almost a 3" drop upfront, honestly though even with the addition of Tokico's the ride sucks and can't go anywhere close to 5MPH over speed bumps(or certain drive-ways) in parking lots because then I have to deal with my subframe creating a spark show :squint: .

I hear the SS springs suck, because some of there spring rates are far diffrent. Go with coil overs :)

Vadim did get a small run from his supplier were not heat treated properly. This caused the springs to weaken and the cars would end up riding on the snubbers. I have had these SS Linears since 1997 and have 75K miles on them. They are the same as the day they were installed. I verified by measuring ride heighth with the same wheels and tires.

When I was purchasing my springs Vadim was upfront with me about the springs that have failed. He indicated to me at the time that ones that were bad were replaced with new SS Linears or Eibachs or refunded. I know that many people have reported having bad experiences with the SHO Shop. All mine have been good and I have known and done business with Vadim for 12 years.

my intrax with a dead coil cut out is as low if not lower than the ss/koni combo.

You wouldn't want to go any lower than where the SS springs drops you too(only 1/2 inch of down travel left). You may be close in ride height to the SS springs but probably no where near them in spring rate. The SS springs are by far superior to any spring available for the SHO (coilovers excluded) when mounted with Konis. The progressive springs work better with a gas charged strut, i.e. Tokkiko.

Well I meant to say COILOVERS...who has a set of IPTs just rotting away? Uh...that would be ME your honor..... :bonk:

I thought that I was the only one. I have the 13th and last set of IPT's ever made sitting in boxes for over a year now. I wonder if I'll ever decide to install them....They were $1300+ new, right?

So if I'm reading this right, I can just cut off the tabs, and get another 1/2" or 3/4" of drop to the front? Or to the front AND back? I have Koni//Eibachs on my car, and I was dissapointed it isnt lower, I'l be doing the tabs very soon, no safety related risks of this mod, right?

Well, the only good way to do it is to call the company who manufactures them for BMW (this particular one is Detata), and have them drill it. The guy I bought them from had them custom drilled for his Volvo S80, and paid $375 per rim. Getting them redrilled is one thing, but getting them drilled to our pattern the first time is another thing. The 30mm offset I was orried would mess things up, but they may not be 30, because it sits fine, I just had to trim a little bit in the rear fenderwells. :thumb: Also seen here:

The amount of drop is limited by the clearance from the top of the tire to the bottom of the spring perch.

You'll probably tear the axle boots as well if you lower it very far and then take the car up to high speeds - the CV boots baloon up and they would tear quickly rubbing against the strut.

What he said.....You might be able to get 3/8-1/2 inch safley, but no more than that. If that little bit is all you need to be happy go for it. But if you need more than that just cut the springs a little. Lower the strut last.

I did not drop the struts in the spindles on mine. I just cut one coil off the front of my intrax springs. Sits perfect for me. It could be a tad lower in the front to match the back perfectly but then that would put the front too low. The way it sits now, I haven't had any trouble. I did fly down a bumpy back road and managed to scrape the frame off the ground on a couple of quick up/down rises, but since I don't do that on a normal basis, it's not a problem.
