I have a 93 SHO with the Mocha or tan interior color. I need to repair the headliner but dont know if I should look into purchasing a new one (if available) or repair the current one. It is a non moonroof headliner. Are there any worthy companies that offer a repair kit and what color should I go with? Thanks

I purchased headliner material from a Internet shop and covered it myself with some 3M adhesive spray. The headliner material has a foam backing already. I didn't even bother pulling off the old stuff, just sprayed the adhesive stuff right on top and put the new stuff down, then cut it to fit.

The hardest parts is pulling the old one out without cracking it, which isn't a big deal.

Here's mine... I went from gray to black (I did an entire black interior swap).

So the stuff you used had a foam backing.. I was curious if anyone had that. What do you think about going a black roof with the mocha interior? Do you think it would look too choppy? My 94 Mustang has grey interior with a black roof. Although it has black seatbelts and the upper trim is black. What company did you go with?

Looks good Jason. Are there any tricks or tips to cutting the new material to fit the headliner?

My headliner is also starting to fray around the edges, and it's not exactly spotless, either. So I've been thinking about what options are out there.

cut the headliner matterial about 2" longer than needed and spray contact cement on both the headliner board (after pulling off the old matterial and cleaning off foam gently with a wire brush), and the back (sponge) of the new headliner material (spray right on the edge also). then carefully press on starting at one end and smoothing it out to the other (having someone hold the opposite end up helps alot), and fold over the edges...

my boss used to own and operate an auto glass and upholstry shop, so i have learned and done 2 of my own cars now...soon to be doing the SHO...

It is pretty much standard for headliner to come on a foam backing, it can be bought at trim supply stores, look in your local listings. If OKC has a large trim supply store, I think anywhere probably does.

yes the headliner material should come with the foam backing, its the nature of the beast. you can use the 3M upholstry glue, or we always used TACC when i ran my upholstry shop. it is ok to glue over the old headliner material, unless its sagging, you'll have to remove it all. since you have a non-sunroof car, it would make it a lot easier for you to find a mocha headliner in a slo taurus or sable that is mocha. just food for thought.

I would just as soon find another mocha headliner then to mess with this one. It wouldnt be so bad if I knew I could match the color and have it match everything else.

FYI all fabric stores carry it. Just ask em and they have a ton of colors. JoAnne Fabric here in KC is where I bought my black headliner material I redid my mustang's liner in. BTW it isn't too tuff to strip the old liner and put the new fabric on. Trick is to pin the fabric to a wall then spray the glue onto the foam side and also the molded fiberglass headliner, let it tack up and just start at one end and smooth it out. bout it:thumb: Good luck man!!
