Just got my 92 back on the road last night after being SHOless for the last 9 months, YEA! However, while doing the roadtest I thought I smelled something burning!?! Well I just put it up in the air and found the exh pipe is making contact with the shifter box, YIKES! This wasn't happening before the high flow y-pipe was installed. Now, my cat back was custome made and rather than going under the box I routed it around the box. ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS???

Cut and weld in an offset in the exhaust in front of the shifter.

Actually, I tink I got it figured out. The stem on the Y-pipe at the front that fits into the exhaust bracket (which mounts to the oil pan) is not in the correct position. With that said, I'm going to heat up the stem on the y-pipe with a torch and bent it back a little. This should provide just enough room, I hope!?!

Just for note, I have a rod shifter.

Which Y-pipe do you have? If its the Magnaflow, you are better off disconnecting the mid pipe, loosening the Y to exhaust bolts, taking the hanger off the oil pan, slipping it over the hanger post on the Y, then use a floor jack and a piece of wood to raise the Y pipe a little to get the bolts from the hanger holder into the oil pan.

IIRC, the passenger side oil pan bolt should go in easy, then you will need to use the wood/jack to ease the inboard part of the hanger up so that you can thread the bolt in. Remember this is aluminum and strips easy.
