So my buddy just picked up a '95 ATX. Has 130k on it and it ran decent for the most part on the way home. Then once he started dailying it (after all the paper work was done). Things started to happen. The ATX was rebuilt, 80ish k ago. But thats the least of his problems. It bangs VERY hard when going slow, but under throttle it seems to shift ok. I don't know if its the fluid or the fliter, or even if the tranny itself is going.. again.

Now onto the main problem. It won't start, like 1 out of 20 tries it'll start. Sometimes it'll run for 5 mins, sometimes it will run for 30 mins. It has died on him countless times while driving too.

So i replaced the CAM sensor. Thinking that was the problem. It seemed to work. Then a few hours later that night it was back to not starting/dying.

Now i'm thinking its either is Fuel pump relay (but i can hear it clicking and the pump itself prime, plus i've seen fuel come out of the valve.) Or its that D sensor (initals slipped my mind for a min, lol) Its the one atatched to the intake. His is the orginal medal one too.

I've ran codes, and the only one i've come up with is 335.

I really don't know what else to do. He likes this car alot and its a very nice car, **** he only payed $650 bucks for it. So please anyone help, it would be great.

Here's the car...

Can't speak to the tranny issue, as my car is a '92 MTX. But the starting/dying issue sounds like what I had back in '96. Crank sensor solved it. The water pumps in these cars have that leaky weep hole, which pretty much drips right on the sensor. No problems since, although I'm probably on borrowed time. If it is the crank sensor, may as well do the water pump while you're in there. Good luck, car looks good, except for that flat right front tire.

Bad CCRM can shut off the fuel pump-but mine only did that when it got hot. CPS could be bad-any coolent leaks under the WP? & sounds like the tranny is on its way out too! Do a full flush on the tranny by removing line at tranny cooler & pump it all out 3-4 quarts at a time-replace fluid & pump it out by starting car-repeat. But not untill you fix the no start-shut off issue. When it will not start try smacking the top sharply of the CCRM & try it again. That worked for me.

your start and stop randomly quit condition is not the CAM sensor, but usually the CRANK sensor, but your codes are not directing you to either.

What you need to do is carry a fuel pressure gauge with you so that the next no start condition you can check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Should be around 30 to 35 at key on, and a strong 40 psi at idle.

As to the DPFE sensor, check the lines leading to it to make sure none are broken, then if that doesnt yield anything, clean it out with carb cleaner...if that fails, replace it.

Mike, next time i see a cheap FP gauge, i'll pick one up. We are going to do the CRANK sensor tommorrow. I know its harder then the CAM. But how much harder?

Well, i got a FP gauge. He is making 31 psi running. Its make 0 psi on RUN, but cranking (while not starting) it makes its way up to 40 psi.

We replaced the fuel pump relay/CCRM. Still nothing.

The DPFE sensor is fine, nothing wrong with it.

We went on a longish drive tonight and it ran ok for the most part. Drove 40 mile or so. Then shut off at 60 mph. Then we sat for bout 10 mins and then it fired back up and made the rest of the trip home.

I'm almost 100% its the CRANK sensor now.
