Need some advice on a fiberglass hood.

A few weeks ago I rear ended a guy and now the hood is a little bent. Rather than going to try and find an OEM hood I've decided to get an aftermarket. There's only one problem though. I've only seen fiberglass hoods for the SHO with a hood cowl. I do not want a hood cowl on mine. IMHO I think they look terrible especially if they are non functional. If anyone has a link to a site that would have such a hood I'd appreciate it. Also if someone has pics please post them as well.

In 91 they made a SHO with a couple of options called a SHO Plus. One of the options was a fiberglass hood with a bulge. It's not a ridiculous bulge, it's very subtle. Watch eBay for a SHO Plus hood or you could post a thread in the "Wanted to Buy" forum for one. I'm sure someone on here has to have one they're trying to get rid of. But I'm not sure, they're quite coveted.

Edit: Just found this . Only $150, perfect condition and needs a repaint. Better get it before someone else does.

Back to "SHO 101"... The bulge hood was NOT part of the Plus option package. It could be had on the regular 91 SHOs as well. This is just speculation, but I would guess that there are probably more regular 91s that came with the bulge hood than Pluses with it. shrug

Not trying to get too far off topic…

If the Plus option did not include the power bulge hood, what did it include? I thought it included the hood, body colored keyed taurus badges, blacked out trim and something else. Oh well.

Please search for the specific list of cosmetic parts that constituted the Plus package on the '91s as it has been discussed and linked many times before. My understanding is that the fiberglass hood was a running production change early in the '91 model year. My January 1991 edition car was so equipped and is definitely not a Plus package. I also believe that the 'glass hood was discontinued after multiple instances of delamination or separation from the metal portions of the hood. This would be both a safety hazard at high speed and a warranty hazard at any speed. I do like the light weight and added aggressiveness that the 'glass hood brings to the Gen I SHO package.

Scott, i read somewhere that when the problem developed of the delaminating hoods, it was remedied but production ceased shortly thereafter. just like Scott, i have a 91 NON Plus with the glass hood. too bad a tree branch fell on it the other day.....

Actually, according to Shotimes.com the hood IS a part of the plus option. And I'm pretty sure they know a little bit more about SHO's then you do. Prove me wrong. Yeah, SOME regular 91 SHOs had them, but did you ever stop to think that maybe they made a few more then they needed and put them on some other SHOs?

There's so much BS and incorrect information on that site its not even funny. The Plus package included (and I'm no Plus expert BTW) spoiler, body colored Taurus badge, 24v badge, chrome window trim, and body colored body molding.

If you wanted the "plus hood" you had to order the plus package. There was no way to order the car with the plus hood and no other plus options. You could however get lucky and order a car and possbily wind up getting the plus hood.
