I currently have a 89 sho and am getting ready to buy another 89. The clutch is getting ready to go (i think) and was wondering what the cost is to replace it with a stock clutch including labor. Also there is a whining noise coming from the engine when you barely rev it from idle. It almost sounds like it is a turbo. Does anybody know what this could be? Thanks for any input.

I found somone to put a clutch in for me for 10.00 an hour if it goes but he's a friend, I think the clutch is b/t $600-800. I also have that whining noise but only when my car is cold. I don't know what it is, i think it might be a belt.

You got it!I wouldn`t pay over $700 for a clutch job(if i didn`t have connections

).The whine could be a belt tensioner. They`re well known for going bad.

the book calls for 8hrs of labor, so whatever there rate is, it should be 8 hrs plus 219 for a clutch kit from shonut

I had a stock clutch put in a few months ago in my 89. The cost was $1077 which included rear main seal set ($76.66),axle seal assembly ($10.34), hub/bearing ($66.67),clutch kit ($240), labor ($650)= 10 hrs. which include the extra work for seals and changing my supplied Red Line tranny fluid! Oh yeah, your whining could easily be your alternator (among other things) bearing getting bad
