First post and hopefully many more.

I still to this day miss my black on black '91 SHO. I traded it in about 12 years ago when I had my first son.

Biggest vehicle regret of my life.

My current vehicle is an Escape that I need out of anyway. Well, today while running to get some supplies at Lowe's for a job at work something happened and I believe my ac compressor completely seized ( been bad since I got it ).

I've been hunting for an Interceptor Utility for about a month and have a guy looking for me. Nothing.

Well, when I tell my wife..." I'll be driving you to work the next few days ". She panicked. Lol

She searched and found me a 2010 black on Black SHO. It's in my price range and local. One of literally a handful of AWD I can find locally in my price anyway.

My worry is it's a twin turbo car and it's got just under 120k on it. SUPER CLEAN. It had 3 owners that clearly were adults because I've never seen a Carfax this sexy.

Do I have any major to be concerned about? I plan on spending at least $1k within the first couple of months getting some preventative maintenance done.

I'm planning on going and test driving it in the morning. Fingers crossed I get some quick knowledgeable responses.

Thanks in advance.

2010 remember that was the first year of the new model. I personally kind of stay with the rule of trying to avoid "First Year" models. With that said, verify the CARFAX, and condition. Remember Black will probably show every little exterior scratch and scuff. Yes Turbo can be one of the more expensive items ask yourself this. What else can I replace that is in the neighborhood that can prevent tearing open the engine again. Think high mileage stuff...Water Pump, Timing Chain, Turbos, obviously,. The $1000 your planning can put a decent dent in some work but still use wisely. Example don't spend $100 on a coolant service if your planning on having to change the water pump...get my drift?

120K is a good potential of having the Turbos go out. Especially early models. Look at the CARFAX Closely, look for not just the obvious stuff like mileage, title, accidents but look at some of the details. I have found some CARFAX that has additional information that can be helpful. Example Shocks, Struts, or Timing Belt/Chain replacement.

Could be a good deal or could be a money pit but sounds like CARFAX is clean and good luck.

Are the miles highway miles, mixed, or city? That will make a difference on wear and tear. Did the owners follow Ford maintenance schedules or were they OCD? Did they have ALL the fluids serviced, and if so, at what mileage? Take the oil fill cap off and inspect the valve train for signs of varnishing. If there is varnishing, synthetic blend oil or extended OCIs are likely at the root. Aside from turbos, the PTU/RDU/driveshaft can fail, so check for signs of leaks there. Water pumps (internal, timing chain driven) are starting to let go, and that is a 14 hour book time job. If you hear a rattle at startup, that could be an early warning.

A PreDeliveryInspection of your own by a trusted mechanic who will pull pipes, check turbos, etc is a good idea, if you do not tend to DIY. If seller does not agree, negotiate a significantly lower price if price is currently market rate. Or else pass on the deal. Nobody here wants you to buy into a headache.

Is 15 to 20K within your budget? 2013's can be had for around 15K to 21K. They are better IMO. Spending alittle more in the beginning can save you in the long run. Also, look outside your area. There are deals everywhere.

imho, its better than even money that it will need turbos in the next year. so your "upgrade" budget for the next year should be $3k, and if you spend less you win.

I wouldn't have any worry about it being a 10 and the first year, but the 13+ do have some nice advantages.

What about a Taurus Interceptor? Since you were looking at Interceptors Utilities, why not look at a Taurus Interceptor? They seem to be priced better than a SHO, but you may have to spend some money on creature comforts. Just gotta make sure it's got the 3.5 EB.

I found a 2014 Taurus Interceptor with 70k miles, 3.5 Ecoboost, for $13k.

I do kinda wish I'd just bought an Interceptor..

Don't pay over 9k for it. Otherwise, sounds good enough.

Well guys, I greatly appreciate the replies. Sorry I haven't replied till now. Literally slept about 8-9 hours total the last 2 days and have driven about 400 miles as well.

Long story there I'll have to touch a little on later. Laying in bed post my thanks before I pass out.

She ended up coming home with me even with all of their sales tactics. They didn't think I was going to make it happen.

This beautiful beast came home with me and she'll be loved the rest of her life.

Before anyone asks, I don't know of mods yet other than I'll be blacking out the ext trim ( recommendations always welcome ) and I'll be either repairing the rash and powder coating ( probably will anyway because I know a guy ) or getting aftermarket wheels. I don't know about black, I've always been partial to gunmetal grey. We'll see, something dark with a non gloss finish.

Oh. I'll also be doing some minor, very minor paint correction and then putting a ceramic coating onEba895a21b449ae4239c4112e533236d

Looks great! The only real performance mod should be a tune and you're pretty much set after that.
