I have a 93 ATX with a good motor at 167K miles.
Silver/Grey interior
stripped model
Needs: Struts, Brakes, Rotors, Tires

Going to look at:
92 MTX 5 Speed
Green/Grey Interior
Seized Motor
Good Transmission
Leather/Sunroof? (Will confirm on Thursday)

I have a place I'd be able to pull both motors. Not sure about engine stand as it has a motor on it right now. Impact, air tools, and cherry picker.

I'll be able to get the car for $200. What would I need to get extra and would it be worth it doing a swap. Will know how many miles the chassis has when I go look at it.

The MTX has been sitting for over four years. A guy at a parts place sold it to a friend and he has done nothing to it after finding out what it would take to fix the 3.0. The guy from the parts store seized it when racing another car that wanted to pass him.

I would much rather be going up a year on the cars to the 94 or 95 ;)

Would it be worth getting? Anything extra I would want to think about getting? Working on a tight budget so mods/upgrades will have to come later.

While reading below, keep in mind I like green and the idea of having a MTX.

[Also waiting to get a call about a car sitting on a farm that is same as mine but with leather/sunroof. No info on the car, just found out about it while giving a guy a brake light for the company pickup in a small town after hours. He knew of where it was and took down my number. Not for sure I'll get a call back or if the owner is wanting to sell it.]

My opinion: If the ATX runs well, leave it alone. If the 92 seems worth it, get it, find a junkyard engine and swap it in.

you don't need anything else extra to do the motor swap besides a working 3.2 - assuming that the 3.0 has all the wiring and accessories and they are all still good (which is a big stretch if the car has been sitting for 4 years....)

so, as Tim says, you can get a jy engine and swap that into the mtx - you can get one of those for less then $400 if you search a bit, so if your 93 atx is worth more than $400 to you, then you should not strip it down as the donor.

The only thing in the 93 that is really worth anything to me is the motor. If I keep it then I'll be doing struts, brakes, rotors. Replacing the carpet, changing the interior to leather, hard button eatc, and a 94/95 ecu.

If I go with the 92 then I will not need the leather, the carpet, the ecu. Other stuff well things just wear out in time.

Now if I get a call on that other car that's identical to mine except it's the leather/sunroof (feel free to fill me in on the terminology of this package lol) then I could use mine for motor for the 92 and then drive the other and have an ATX and an MTX. Of course then I'll be building myself a doghouse to sleep in because I'll definitely be in it!!!

... for right now I'm not even going to think about the other car like mine for planning stuff. I'm impatiently waiting for that phone call :laugh_ti:

Everyone hates on the ATXs.. they're still fun for blasting down the highway, and not so bad on back roads if you turn off Overdrive. As an owner of both, I like having both. And, the 50/50 seats seem to hold up better than the leather ones, and I think they're more comfortable, certainly more grippy in the corners. In fact, send me the 50/50 seats you take out, my MTX car could use a set of grey ones to replace the leather seats that are all torn up :eek:P

 I have to fix my overdrive off since someone cut the wires for some odd reason. I mean it's a definite clean cut. Maybe I'll break out the soldering iron and heat-shrink today. It's a good day for it. Hooray for the invention of inverters! I'm sure functionally the 50/50 seats may be better. I want that sporty look! All except the driver is in great condition... of course it gets the most use! I'm hoping to find that other one that's just north of here. If I do then I would love to have both (starts building the doghouse).

Thanks for the responses. Still haven't gotten to see it yet. The owner is working 7 days a week 12 hours a day right now. Hope to see it soon!
