Need Input on a SHO Dilemma!

You better watch what you say there buddy. Paul Fisher (who owns Fisher Automotive) is a Gen 3 SHO owner, and long-time member of the V8SHO list. You won't endear yourself with many members on here widly throwing out insults like that at our friends.

With the way our economy is, I'd personally fix the car and keep it paid for rather than going for a car payment. Thats just me though. If you factor in how much its going to cost to fix it properly versus what a year worth of car payments and mandatory full coverage insurance is, the repair work would be much wiser. If I could rewind back to greenbean and not get hungry for all the vettes I've had, the s2000, the solstice, I could go on and on, Id have so much money in the bank right now it would be ridiculous. Its nice having a new or newer car until the new wears off. Then you find yourself upside down in a car payment and stuck. Thats just me though. Enjoy whatever it is you do

Just checked today and there still are no bids. Would probably consider if there was a lower starting price. Most ebayer's don't seem willing to deal as long as the car is listed. They're waiting for the big bidding war at the end. I contacted the seller of my Alfa 164 after the auction. He was willing to sell at the asking price, which was reasonable. Another similar car was listed at the same starting price, and also had no bids. When I contacted him about selling at his asking price, he called me "bottom sucking scum" for offering to buy his car at his original asking price.

Purchased another SHO!

After driving a lot of "ricers" and not getting excited enough about any of them to plunk down big bucks, and thanks to the input from this thread from Funmart6 about the white 97 with 74K, I asked SHMBO how she felt about another SHO. To my surprise, she indicated that she would consider it, but was wary of purchasing another car on eBay. So Saturday, just for yucks!, I checked on cars.com for SHO's in our area. Saw a 99 with 48K within 10 miles of home. We went to look at it, and although it has some issues with bodywork, seemed like a good deal, especially with a 5 year/100K powertrain warrenty. So we purchased it.

Have a few questions regarding 99's vs. 97's. The 99 reportedly has chrome wheels (only option available as far as I know), but the wheels seem duller than the 97's, but brighter than I would expect for polished aluminum.

Also read on this board that 99's don't have the OD off button on the shift lever, but this one does.

Do 99's have the electrically controlled shocks (semi-active suspension as Ford calls it)? Looked, but didn't see the wires to the shocks, but I didn't have the car on a lift, just looking underneath from the ground at the dealer lot. The owners manual indicates that there is a fuse for the semi-active suspension. But I thought I read on this board that 99's didn't have this.

I plan to swap my brand new Dunlops onto this car, and may do the brighter chrome wheels of my 97 if they clean up sufficiently, especially if the 99's are not chrome.

Also, can I swap the retractable antenna of my 97 onto the 99, or is the wiring harness different?

This also leaves the problem of what to do with my 97 with the bad tranny. Anyone interested in it as a parts car. Do I just scrap it (not what I want to do). I could part it out, but that would leave another car around for a while, and take time that I do not have. I would appreciate your comments and suggestions.

I don't believe the polished wheels were an option on 99's.

-Not sure about the OD switch, I know in '99 they used up all the SHO parts left over and then they became less optioned.

-No SARC on 99's

-Swap the antenna, plug and play I believe, unless there are any power issues which I don't think there are.

Correct me if I'm wrong anybody. Just going from memory.

At this point, I was asking for opinions on what to do with my old car. I was not aware of fees for posting parts or cars for sale. (The other forums I use do not charge such a fee.) I appologize if you are offended. I will post the car and pay the fee if I feel that is what would work best to divest myself of this car and also allow it to keep other SHO's on the road. If I'm going to get flamed for asking an opinion, I'll just sell it for scrap and everyone else be damned!

Congrats on the purchase. Do you mind if I ask what the final price was?

As for posting pics- I think if you host the pictures somewhere and post the links, someone else can just quote your post and the pics will show up. It works like this for the majority of the boards I visit.

Too Much!

Final price was $7500 with the powertrain warranty. Prior to looking at the car, I checked KBB, NADA, and Edmuds websites. Dealer retail averaged $7000 for a black 99 with 48K miles. Also partially based my acceptable cost on the white 97 with 74K miles in Allentown, PA on eBay, although I see that car did not sell. Dealer was OK at $7K, but without the warranty. After the tranny issue with my 97, I figured $500 for the warranty may not be a bad investment. Not to mention the cam issues. I will probably have it welded soon, but not immediately. If the cam slips, at least I have some of the repair costs covered. The car is clean, but has some paint scraps where one of the PO's probably parked too close to something. Will probably have that repaired next spring. (Just in case it gets struck this winter).

So I probably paid too much, but it's a lot less than the <50K mileage, >2004 model year *** cars I was looking at (>$15K). And the SHO is much more fun to drive than a Camay or Accord, or even the Nissan Maxima that I liked the best.

I think you made the right choice, who wants to go from a fun and rare car with a V8 to some dime-a-dozen rice car with a v6, not me that's for sure.
That warranty sounds like a pretty good deal as well. Good luck with this one!

99 SHO Photos

It would be much easier to embed them in the message, so they just show up, like they do on my Alfa board. I've seen embedded photos in other posts, and both boards seem to use the same interface, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I agree- $7500 seems like a lot of money for a car that is about 10 years old. But hey- if you like it, who cares how much it cost! :sun:

Now that I think about it.... I bought my first SHO in 2000 when it was 9 years old, and I'd only paid $4600 for it with 75k miles.

Paid exactly $7500.00 for my Black and grey fully optioned (even has cell option) '97 SHO back in 2003 and it had 87,000 miles on it. It was then, as it is now, extremely clean inside and out and even under the hood. Now it has 144,000 miles on it.
