Hello to all. I've been out of the community since I sold my '91Plus years ago, but have always wanted to get a Gen4.

Well a '16 with Equipment Group 401A has just popped up at my local dealer. 71K on the clock and they're asking $18,700. Only have seen a single picture posted on their website and plan to buzz over early this week and take a closer look.

Isn't 2016 the start of the better years/upgrades on the SHO Gen4's? Anything I should pay close attention or ask about when I go over. ANY input from members would be a big help. Really want to get back into a full sized performance sedan.

Thanks for your time!

I assume you've been poking around and see what maintenance is like. This mileage is creeping up. Consider turbo life and then timing job down the line. Just have open eyes on the real cost of ownership at this age and mileage and make sure there is room in the budget. I'd be looking at ptu and other driveline fluid service. See if there is a Ford maintenance report available. Ford dealer service has a national database of what's been done at their service departments. I hope it's a great car. Good luck.

Oh yeah. IF you can get it inspected by another capable tech, pay for the once over and Mode 6 data on a scantool (not a code reader). Those tools can look at the car systems and look at operating data. Ford has programmed alot of wiggle room before actual codes pop the CEL. It can help determine the health of systems and parts even before a hard code fault will be triggered.

the 16 is what I wish I had. the price is a bit high for sure, but with this market....

normal stuff look at maintenance history - prefer to see 3-4k oil changes and not 5-6k. also has the rdu and other oil changes? no well that becomes a negotiating point. let's face it they didn't.

brake fluid and radiator drains/changes, get her on a lift and look at the weep hole look past the oil filter, the water pump is the same issue for all years. when the coolant gets old the lubricants and protectants can cause the pump to fail sooner. 70-100k replace. make sure there is a full size oil filter on her, the shorties have become popular to save money.

check the turbo lines for leaking oil, check around the drive shafts and look for any fluid leakage near ptu and transmission.

winter car check the plastic areas by the rocker panels for rust that is hiding. make sure all recalls have been repaired.

check the transmission mounts they start to rot, the one near the battery tray top of transmission

Thanks for the responses, unfortunately a Gen4 SHO will not be in my future. TOO CRAMPED!! I'm 6'5 with a 36in inseam and even with the steering wheel all the way up and out, my right leg is just wedged tight between the center console and the steering wheel. ****, I think I have more room in my '08 Legacy!

Thanks again and be safe!

Yeah, how such a big car has such a small drivers compartment/seat area is beyond me.
